Re: Error with notification count

Hi @jab1,

Thanks for your patience while Khoro has been investigating.  I received an update today to say that they have carried out a Community restart and have asked me to let them know if you experience the slow performance again.

To be honest, I don't know how this is meant to improve the issue you have faced and they have not offered any explanation.  Please keep an eye on things and if you experience the slowdown again, let me know and I will kick the ticket back to them.

Cheers

Sean

Re: Error with notification count

Will do, @SeanD , and like you I don't know if it will be effective, or if it is, for how long.I will keep my eyes on it though.

That all depends on if they found something untoward in their investigation (their application harbouring systems resources - think memory "leak") or if it was a matter of "bounce the system because that usually 'fixes' those things we do not understand"!

It begs questions about service delivery monitoring: does Khorous...

  1. Proactively monitor systems responsiveness and performance (in detail - e.g. networks and database)?
  2. One expects that this system is more than one service instance - so in detail to the above, do they monitor service instance performance comparatively?  (That is why does one service "node" perform differently from another service "node"?)
  3. Undertake periodic housekeeping...
    1. Service restarts
    2. Database optimisations

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Error with notification count

@SeanD Still not fully sorted, I'm afraid. Odd times the site is like lightening, but more often than not, I'm still sat here staring at an (apparently) unresponsive screen.

Sometime today, when the post count has built up, so I'm here for a while, I'll generate and send you another file - maybe a little longer than the original.

Re: Error with notification count

Do you have any ad / tracker blocking installed @jab1?
I haven't noticed any slowdown but block most things. The one thing it does seem to take some time on is liveperson.io

Re: Error with notification count

Hi @jab1,

Thanks for confirming.  I would be lying if I said that I was surprised.

I am going to kick the ticket back to them immediately and see what they have to say.  They may ask for another .HAR so preempting this request will hopefully speed things up.

I will update you again once I hear back from them.

Cheers

Sean

I have uBlock origin running, but that is only showing one 'block' at the moment, as it has for a long time, even prior to this current issue, so I don't think that is the issue.

May be later when I send it you, Sean. Need to make sure I'm going to be on here long enough to create a meaningful file.

Re: Error with notification count

@SeanD Sent you a couple more .HAR files. Hope you got them. Can you advise on here please as I only visit the Yahoo mail about once a month, just to check I'm not getting spam, basically?

Re: Error with notification count

It is getting worse, especially on trying to open individual boards!

Not that it should make any difference, but I don't know if you are aware, I am no longer a Plusnet customer. All other sites perform as expected, even those with a greater 'payload' and a traceroute to 'community.plus.net gives a fast response - it is only when I am browsing the site this is occurring -  definitely something at Khorus, whatever they claim.

Re: Error with notification count

Hi @jab1,

Thank you for sending the 2 .HAR files, I have received these and kicked the ticket back to Khoros.  It definitely wont have anything to do with you not being a PN customer. but something doesn't seem right.

I will update you when Khoros get back to me.

Cheers

Re: Error with notification count

Hi @jab1,

Thanks for your continued patience.  I received an update from Khoros.

They have been unable to replicate the slow performance (no surprise there) but they have reviewed the .HAR files you have provided and can see the issue you are investigating.  This ticket has now been escalated to a different team within Khoros to get some answers.

I will let you know the outcome.  I don't know how long this will take as my experience when cases like this are escalated is that it takes a little longer, but rest assured I am on the case.

Cheers

Sean

Re: Error with notification count

No problem, @SeanD , I understand, and am aware of the 'Khoros way'. I'll see what happens while I'm on a totally different connection over the Xmas period - Virgin, down on the South Coast - but I doubt it will make any difference.

As an aside, IF I have cause to fire up the W7 laptop in the next week or so, I'll see if that makes any difference, but I highly doubt it.

That way, hopefully, my connection, and my equipment, can be eliminated as a cause.

Re: Error with notification count

Hi @jab1,

I have received a further update, although not sure it's much of an update.

Khoros have said they are still investigating, however they came across another issue which they claimed affected slowness in loading images in a post, which they claim could cause slowness in Community.  They have fixed the slow image issue and have asked if you could retest your experience.

They have also requested an updated .HAR file if you find your performance is still slow.

Given the time of the year, I appreciate you may not be able to do this quickly so whenever you get a chance is fine.

Cheers

Sean
