I guess if they have messaged you, then the link to message them automatically is in your inbox under their name.
If you have messaged them, and they haven't messaged you, you could opt to save the message in your outbox, and therefore see the link to message them (its the speech bubble under their name - red for when they are offline, green for when they are online)

You need to go to the SMF website (links at the foot of every page in here) and look to see if there is a modification that does this (I had a very quick look and couldn't see one). If you find what you want, post the link back here and request that it be considered for this site.
