From unread topics - goes to wrong post

it now goes to the first post not the first unread post and the icons on the reply screen are mucked up as noted in the staging site

Icons have been fixed (have a look at the staging site). I have sent an email to Lithium support about the jumping to first unread post from the unread topic page.

Don't understand the comment about the first unread post. Clicking the unread post count link which is what I've always used still works correctly!

Clicking the circled link took me straight to page 2.

I have never used that one but it certainly gets round the problem

Seems it's working the obvious way to me.

If you want to read the unread posts in a topic you click the unread count, if you want to read from the beginning you click the title.

If it jumped to the first unread it then takes an extra click (or scroll up if on the first page)  if you want to read from the beginning.

The thing I think is missing is the unread count on the topic list when viewing a board so you have both options in there as well.
