Re: I have just had a word Censored

@Jelv - I'm not saying that at all.
Firstly I think 'YouTube' should increase it's responsibility, and automatically remove ALL blatant offensive language in the follow-up comments, and bar persistent offenders.
It should also introduce an age rating scheme, as applies to DVD films or computer games, so that responsible parents can control what is appropriate for their child to see.
Secondly, related to this forum, I am merely questioning the level at which the bar of acceptability is set, and that level should be relevant for the actual forum audience (i.e. adults) and not arbitrarily set to such a low level that everything has to be sanitised so that young children won't ever be offended - because I don't believe that "impressionable youngsters" frequent this forum, unless you can prove me wrong ?
If I ruled the world, I would set the moderation to what would be acceptable for say a 15 year old to see.

Re: I have just had a word Censored

To me it's not children, it's anyone who may be offended. Last time I checked Plusnet's T&Cs I didn't spot anything that said that vicars, nuns, elderly spinsters or any other groups who might be offended by bad language were not allowed to be a Plusnet user.

Re: I have just had a word Censored

Just as an aside my 6 year old grandson browses the PN forum as a guest....he's seen me do it and copied me.
He remembered the URL and typed it into Firefox on his profile. They are quite smart even at that age.
PS He doesn't know my username or password so he can't post or moderate Smiley

Re: I have just had a word Censored

I totally fail to see how that is a relevant question.

No!
However he knows about many of the words that would get censored here as he hears them in the playground.
When speaking about them he refers to them by their first letter....e.g. the 'F' word as he knows he's not allowed to say them.

Oh dear, what started as a little bit of a mickey take has clearly gone somewhat OTT.

Re: I have just had a word Censored

For the last time, I don't want to see standards reduced !, but this forum has become overly politically correct and intolerant, and no longer has the sense of humour and social banter that it used to have.  No wonder so many regular contributors that used to introduce challenging and/or interesting discussion topics have moved on, as ultimately they either get moderated or shouted down by a minority of members who have not actually taken the time to read and understand what it is that the other topic contributors had written.
All I want to see is the old fun and spontaneity return to chit-chat, but I guess that is never going to happen if the policy is to pander to six year olds, nuns, vicars, and spinsters !
Why not go further and ban all mention of "Christmas" or "Birthday" on the off chance that it might offend Jehovah’s Witnesses ?
Clearly my views are no longer valued, maybe they never were, so it is my turn to be intolerant -

Re: I have just had a word Censored

Question to the moderators: have any recent changes been made to the word censor?

Re: I have just had a word Censored

My, my what have I started?
purleigh's first post in this thread which started with, "Cobblers" I find some what offensive and yet it was not censored.
Cobblers just like C**P has various meanings. It has nothing directly to do with shoemakers but originates from 'cobblers' awls', the pointed hand-tools that cobblers use to pierce holes in leather. The rhyme is with 'balls'. referring to "B****cks".
So might I suggest to whom is responsible for Censorship and send me the list so that I might amend for you!
Should anyone think that I do not have the correct experience/qualifications, then think again.

Re: I have just had a word Censored

I understand it is some time since the list was last modified. Would it be an idea for the mods to review it and update it where necessary?

Not for ages and certainly nothing which would have caused problems in relation to the original complaint
