I don't understand the question really - I mean, why would anybody even consider putting the most popular board at the bottom of a list?

That's the main reason we looked at changing it, but it's over to you lot to decide. Smiley

Looks like I guessed wrongly if I understand these two comments correctly.
Either way, I stand by my last statement, just make one of the options the one that is put in place.
Its easy to change if it turns out to be unpopular.

Re: New Forum Layout

Through force of habit, ChitChat at the bottom please.
Have had several looks because it does need a bit of consideration.
Pink section dividers I can live with although grey might have been a bit more tasteful. However, for the visually impaired probably pink is a good choice as it is nice and bright.
In my desire to see fewer sections overall I can see why the section on community feedback + support library contributions has been included, particularly as we are in it at the moment.
Just wonder if it will be as important when all this has died down.  Was thinking that if this section is not well used, it could be integrated into Feedback at the top?
Otherwise, well done everyone - it looks as if it will be much easier to navigate and I for one will be glad of it.

Oh, and p-l-e-a-s-e can we have some more smilies?

Re: New Forum Layout

I seem to remember the question of more smilies coming up in the past and we asked why we couldn't steal the Usergroup ones - I think there was a question of copyright

Re: New Forum Layout

Whose idea was it to put Mac & Linux forums together?
I don't use Mac's software and they don't provide Linux software (except in a macerated form).
I prefer the present layout. Sad

Re: New Forum Layout

Maybe a sensible request would be to allow users to choose the css that suits their tastes.
At least then people could choose from a couple of sizes and a couple of colours.
It would also fit with making the site more accessible for those with poorer sight.

Re: New Forum Layout

Woke up this morning and my thoughts eventually turned to this subject and the issue of amalgamating Linux and Mac. I didn't envisage that it would be the Linux folk who would object so A Fox has surprised me somewhat. I assumed that the Mac users would be up in arms at having their section violated with Open Source so just goes to show you never know what people are thinking (although there's time yet).
As for me, I'm quite happy to share with Mac fans - just budge up a little please!  Wink

Re: New Forum Layout

@ A Fox, poppy,
We merged them cos they're the quieter ones, and having a Windows and then a non-Windows board made it easier.
@Gary, James,
I've asked for the banners to be changed to dark grey to see what it looks like, but I personally think the pink will look better.

Re: New Forum Layout

I agree Mand - makes perfect sense to merge them (no argument from me). However, the forums may be 'quiet' but the exponents of the different systems aren't!  Roll_eyes
On reflection, I think that pink is OK.

Re: New Forum Layout

To add a little balance to the Chit-Chat debate, the reason that we've suggested a more prominent place for it is to try and encourage more people to join our community rather than posting for support and disappearing when the issue is resolved.  Obviously not everyone will want to do this but if we make it clear that it's an option then it should help bring in new members.
If we don't have it at the top, then I think it should go in the top half of the page (or 'above the fold' if you like) so it's still prominent.

Perhaps Mac/Linux should the "Other"?

I see where you are coming from on this - I've changed my vote.

It's for that reason that I've voted top. I also think it looks aesthetically better (just!)
