Re: Post editing

Sorry to hear that @rongtw. It's fine to have an opinion but I would appreciate useful discussion rather than comments that add nothing to what is being talked about.

Re: Post editing

@Anotherone, did I miss something ?. what has miraculously improved in the last nine days ?

Why nine days ?, I seem to remember that things were so bad that you were seriously considering chucking in the towel !

This forum is in it's tenth week and barely anything has been resolved, reporting errors has become pointless as there is no concerted effort to fix anything, constructive suggestions are ignored, Lithium seem uncontrollable and unaccountable, and the Rich Text editor still hasn't been replaced with something that actually works.

[edit] even posting this reply the bloody Rich Text editor did yet another (new) stupid error which I could only resolve by POSTing and then coming back in to re-edit my reply.  Angry

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that is totally abysmal at present is the search engine.

To this I would add the port of the 'Community Library' facility from the SMF forum without its underlying structure and search.  Reported in the first few days in the life of this new beast.  The posts all have the same date and many items e.g.  'Windows 95 Dial up'  need to be pruned.  You can use 'Search'  (though I use the term with caution Funny ) to improve the results.  Back to your problem No. 1?

Re: Post editing

Yes I commented on that before we went live. It's because the same template has been used as used for the Blogs which need to be most recent first. So then where some of the Library posts were "tidied up", they acquired a more recent date.

I wouldn't want to see it "pruned", there's stuff there that is of interest for historical reasons and may not appear elsewhere. It' simply the order in which they are currently appearing.
I don't know if the date "given" can be edited, which would be a quick way of getting things in a sensible order.

I had suggested that it they should be listed in the order of most popular, which should put stuff like FTTC profiles, DLM, PPPoE Dialup connections, and FIrmware updates to the top of the list.
As you can expect it's pretty low on the list at present, as I was given the impression that a different template would be a lot of work.

I know that some things i post may be Negative , i dont want to sound like a pain in the **m .

Now i am not a expert at all , but from a normal customers observation here reading posts , NOWT looks like its getting anywhere Ok yes Jaread86 has made some minor fixes Thumbs_Up but its still not realy any better than it was when it went live .

like one of the first things mentioned was the whiteness Sad  and pinky buttons too big ,, 2 months its same Sad buttons are still BIG even on my android Undecided.

Anotherone yes there are some nice features but the Fine tuning required Outweighs the good these bring .

It just seams that forum customers are finding problems faster than any thing is fixed Sad

Re: Post editing

Changing the overrall design is no easy task to undertake. Its on my radar to be looked at (especially the mobile side of things) and we will need to look into the design itself and make changes and see how well it sits with the stage testers. When this does happen, we will most likely present a few options to choose from, from there further refinements will be made until we reach a consensus. This type of change is a lot bigger than simply changing some padding here and there, it requires a lot of changes across everything is something we will be looking at once we get some of the main issues with the platform itself out of the way.

Speaking of which, @LouisaMartin has been hounding Lithium for fixes and things are being looked at, I assure you. We talk almost everyday and have a meetup to discuss every week on the progress of those bugs. But before we can move on to changing things for the sake of visuals, we want these major bugs to be squashed so we feel confident in making those changes. One of the reasons for doing it this way is that some users might feel like we are wasting our time doing those visual elements when more 'important' things need to be updated first.

Re: Post editing

As @Anotherone also mentioned, the library is also on my list of things to look at in time becuase it does indeed share the blog templates. That should be a simple change to do but it needs a bit of love as a lot of the articles are very outdated (like the windows 95 one) and the dates being displayed are not really relevant in that context as its a knowledge base, not a blog so it doesn't need comments or dates displayed.

Re: Post editing

Jaread83 ,,, Sorry but i was under the illusion that the Main BUG,s Shocked  were suposidly fixed before it went live ?

Lithium are so called experts Roll_eyes who cannot or will not fix what i would presume they are here for Ticked_off

People here sould not be spending time looking for bugs that the experts have made in the forum

Re: Post editing

I guess I can't be the only one to report this so please move to any active thread if needed.

I was composing a reply to this thread. In that time the OP posted a reply with 4 minutes between it and my response, but I wasn't informed of this when I clicked 'Post'. So some of my reply looks silly considering I'm asking the OP to post information that was posted in those 4 minutes.

Is there a reason why no notifications are given?

Re: Post editing

One other thing that's different is when you edit a post it obviously gets a this post has been edited notice.

On the original user friendly forum if you edited a post within a few minutes it never did which was a sensible thing as errors  are often spotted straight away and put right.

This forum is just blunt with no such finesse.

Re: Post editing

It would be very useful to have some kind of notification that told you that a reply has occured between the time you started composing a new message and another user comes along and adds their own reply. This is something we have already asked Lithium about (as well as other communities) to implement. I can't comment on when it will be implemented on the platform though and I am unable to change how this system works.

I do agree with you though, it is a very useful feature on standard forums that is missing here.

Re: Post editing

It actually beggars belief that such an obvious facility does not exist on this platform, considering the archaic SMF had one which I assume was way older than this. Also I'm with @billnotben not regarding a window of opportunity to edit a post without it being marked as such.
