Re: SIte load process / performance

@MauriceC Yesterday was terrible - hence my post. Today it is decidedly sporadic, some requests being almost instant, others still sitting at 'waiting for community.plus.net' for up to 10 seconds. Once past that, everything seems perfect.

Re: SIte load process / performance

I suspect that it has something to do with Lithiums servers. Not something I have any control over I'm afraid. I can ask their support about it though.

@jaread83 Thanks, Jack. Weird that TT and Virgin don't seem affected, though.Wink

Re: SIte load process / performance

Sometimes all it takes is a restart of the community instance on their servers. Last time I asked about the slow response times they had a look and saw that our forum hadn't been restarted in many months - restarting it did make things faster.

Thanks @jaread83  but isn't that just cleaning up the garbage rather than resolving the Root Cause.  Evil and it doesn't really explain the random / sporadic nature of the slowdown in performance.

Re: SIte load process / performance

@jaread83  It's bad again now.  Even clicking 'Like' takes 5 / 6 seconds.

NOTE:  Still in the same session as my earlier response.

Re: SIte load process / performance

Lithium are taking a look. They have asked my permission to restart and I have said its fine to go ahead (downtime should be minimal).

Re: SIte load process / performance

@jaread83 Thanks for that. It is horrendous at the moment 'waiting' for 25 seconds on my last attempt to view a post.

Re: SIte load process / performance

I got an email last night at 21:30 informing me that a restart has been scheduled. Another email will follow when it has been done.

Re: SIte load process / performance

A restart has been done. I tried giving @jab1 a thumbs up and i did it quite quickly.
Let me know if this has helped at all.

Re: SIte load process / performance

Certainly seems quicker, @jaread83, but still a little sluggish when clicking on a board.

Re: SIte load process / performance

Observation:

I’ve noticed that page loading seems to have become markedly worse. A lot of jumping about / scrolling and slow rendering.

Have I lost the plot or is displaying “Who is on line” at the bottom of board content listings new? I thought it was only displayed on the top forum page which lists the boards index.

On my computer I’m seeing this flash up during the page load (content distorted) - page scrolls down and then back up. It’s slow and tedious!!

Then I switched to my iPhone (Safari) and I’m not seeing the same behaviours ... indeed it looks fab and it’s fast.

Does this point to a browser issue or a viewport rendering issue?

Note I think I once saw a grid being rendered right at the very bottom of the page when on the laptop - Win10 & Edge. I also find loading the post page on that platform irritatingly slow and clunky.

Edit - typos corrected.

Re: SIte load process / performance

@Townman  Your last post seems a little odd - especially at the beginning.Wink

My observations, following the Lithium reload, are that pages load much faster (although clicking on a board header still results in a 5 second delay). I don't see any 'odd' behaviour on page load, that seems consistently fast and error free.

Loading the post page also seems OK, too.

'Who is on line' has always been at the bottom  of board content listings - you probably don't notice it if you don't go to the bottom of the page often

All on FF63.0 (64bit) on a W7 Home machine.

Re: SIte load process / performance

Odd!!  Today things are VERY much better!

@jaread83 - IIRC Wednesday is update day around here.  Is that the early hours of Wednesday morning?  Was there any system changes made Tuesday / Today this week?

Screen painting is till like watching paint dry … am going to look for some screen recording software … so you can see what I see. Wink
