Re: Spell checker?

That's good. Now where did I put that list of other "improvements" that need reversing.

Re: Spell checker?

OK I must be missing something here but it is evident to my that spellchecker isn't working for me. Also in the OP there is reference to expanding the toolbar, but what does that provide? I see nothing in relation to spell checking.

As can be seen above.

Re: Spell checker?

I also no longer see the spell checker icon in the expanded toolbar.

I presume this is so because spell checking is now being performed by my browser spell checker.

Upon testing it is.

Re: Spell checker?

@Mook Have you got a dictionary installed on your browser?

The reference to expanding the toolbar in my OP doesn't apply now as your browser should auto-check spelling (&grammar?).

When I posted originally there was an 'ABC?' tab between the exclamation mark and the 'HTML' in your screenshot, which I'm guessing called the 'Khorus' dictionary, but has now disappeared due to the default being an installed dictionary.

EDIT Strat beat me to it.

Re: Spell checker?

Ah! Well there you go, it didn't, though I thought it did, but does now and if I make a deliberate mistake I see it being underlined. Normally I compose offline which is why I've only just noticed this, so thanks for that @jab1

Re: Spell checker?

Arrrgh, it's gone again now, unless I am missing something?

My spelling is so terrible it used to save me from doing a copy and paste into Word being posting anything. 😕

Re: Spell checker?

Doesn't here, weird:

This is a spell gdjglgd check.

Oh well, good when it works. Just a shame when it doesn't. Don't know why for me.

@Alex What browser do you use? Has it got a spell checker installed?

Re: Spell checker?

Safari on a Mac.

I was thinking more that if it were server based rather than a client. The red underlying does my head in, so I usually disable it if I can. Thanks Microsoft for thinking that were a good idea and passing that around.

I probably did when I first got the Mac, as it is the first thing that gets on my nerves.

Still doesn't answer why the Lithium spell checker has disappeared.

EDIT: Meant "How you type underlying".

Re: Spell checker?

In that case, no idea, @Alex. I don't use Safari, even on my iPad, so have no idea what it's capabilities are.

Re: Spell checker?

@Alex  - When I tried Safari on Mac (Catalina 10.15.3) I get this appearing, both when I misspell and as word completion as I type.

Re: Spell checker?

The options are (apparently) either manual invocation of spelling check after typing (pain in the neck) or the more ergonomic check as you type using the browser’s technology which will highlight spelling errors by its own determined method usually red underlining.

If red underling infuriates so ... do not miss-spell!! Wink

As I think I mentioned earlier, Grammarly is a good option which works on safari as well as other browsers, and in my experience is a better guesser of the writer's intention than the default browser checker.
