Support library language corrections

Pierre - yes, but swear words aren't acceptable because they're offensive, which puts them in a completely different kettle of fish to the word we're discussing.
Community - I am inclined to disagree with you to some extent. We have a number of similarities - I too was educated in a grammar school and enjoyed foreign languages - so we have similar experiences. Indeed, the German language actually underwent a change right in the middle of when I was learning it! So I understand that languages are flexible and evolve. But I do not feel that means we have no duty to care for them, to look after them, by observing the rules that exist to keep them refined and honed. Otherwise one might as well say 'let's allow text speak to become an accepted part of the language' which I'm sure most people would agree would be rather frightful. Languages are tools - very complex tools - and they need to be maintained with care in order to retain their precision, accuracy, and effectiveness.

Have to admit, I was particularly lazy writing that article.
My level of English is (hopefully!) of a pretty good standard, but I have a habit of making and missing typos and writing words that are completely wrong.  for example I was writing something the other days that used the word "moderators" quite often, but I kept on writing "moderation".

I edit a couple of  society newsletters / websites etc , and among the membership are several retired teachers, one a English teacher and one a classics teacher (Latin &  Greek) so am used to getting the odd friendly digs etc

Well whilst not many people have expressed explicit opinions about the issue, I take it that those who have posted in this thread without saying 'I hate the thought' of me doing some language editing are at worst nonchalant about the idea. By that assumption, it looks like the majority feel it would be acceptable for me to go ahead and do some editing, so I'll start doing so as and when I have the time and inclination. However I should mention that now I'm a moderator, I probably will have less time to devote to the support library - I was only approached about moderating this morning so when I started this thread I had no idea I'd soon be in this role. Nevertheless, I will try and get a bit of editing done every now and then.
