I dunno, but that is an interesting question. I certainly haven't seen it on two other Khorus hosted forums I pop into from time to time.

Mind you plusnets is the only one amongst those I frequent that uses all the slidy out bells and whistles bits. Sorry if that's too technical.

True, @billnotben . As I understand it, but I'm open to correction, the PN forums are built on the 'next generation' Lithium/Khorus platform, but, IMHO, that should mean they get close attention from the suppliers to make sure they are fit to roll out to other customers. That close attention, though, seems to be missing.

SEEMS to have been sorted sometime between 2200 last night and 0730 today - until next time.
It would be nice if we could be given a rough idea of the cause, but I'm guessing Lithium/Khorus will plead commercial confidentiality and not give us even a clue.

You make reference to ‘logging out” something I do not explicitly do and do not see the issues others report. I also believe you use assertive cookie crunchers, again something I do not do.
This raises questions over does log off fully and cleanly close the session state(s) server side with the consequences that on the next logon some residual session state is presumed ... for which the requisite cookies are missing on the client?
This has some similarity to the issues seen with billing, where after a portal session timed out, logging back into the portal left the billing service crippled until a full forced log out from the portal was executed.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links

@Townman I know your reply above was aimed at Mook, but may I just explain my actions with regards to the forums?
I am permanently logged in, Plusnet cookies are explicitly retained when CCleaner is run - daily - and the only blocked elements are 'googletagmanager.com' and 'omtrdc.net' - neither of which seem to have any effect on the correct functioning of the site under normal conditions - and yes I have tried turning off uBlock to see if that was the culprit.

I do not normally logout of the Forum (though the system occasionally does it for me ), but I seem to be one of the regulars who does get affected by these annoyances.

(No I don't need to explain, but thought I would being as I was tagged in a reply) - I'm really sorry for the delay in replying John. Some idiot (typing this reply) decided to attempt do something else after his last post yesterday and upon gently (and with some difficulty, but that's not important) trying to stand up this bafoon ran into a spot of bother and ended up crashing into a heap on the floor, which resulted in the remainder of the day/night ending up in 2 different urgent care centres and then onto hospital. Anyway, back at home now (with a bruised pride) and looks like I missed all the fun...
Re paragraph #1 I haven't forgotten about that communications preference foul-up - still on my radar With regards to the survey pop-up, I'm sure the 6 month gap was mentioned somewhere - but don't recall where.
Para. #2 As above, I only see the survey rarely, but I'm surprised you see it as often as you do. Although I'm permanently logged into Community on the laptop - with most PN cookies retained - I go fresh to the forums on the iPad - all browsing history, cookies &c are cleared when I close either Dolphin or Safari on there, but I certainly don't see the invite on every visit.
I would guess to say it's possible the survey did try and popup in your case, but I could be very wrong on this. It is odd that you and only a few of us were having these issues.
(of the 60 odd forum email notifications I got in the last 24 hours, I am aware of a PN employee working at a PN data centre, so maybe this issue could be related to a data centre - though I doubt it as more users would have reported the same)
I see the survey at least once a day, though as already mentioned by others, I do not save any cookies at the end of the day. So the forum would see me as a new user each time I go to the site. I also see the survey after clearing all my FF browser history, cache etc etc.
But weird as again I wasn't impacted..
I only had issues with the notifications not working until I clicked no thanks on the popup survey, then it worked for the short time I was actually on the forums. Today, I have come to the site, waited for the survey to popup, declined and then logged in. I then went straight to my notifications and read the oldest one.
This raises questions over does log off fully and cleanly close the session state(s) server side with the consequences that on the next logon some residual session state is presumed ... for which the requisite cookies are missing on the client?
Not wanting to cause any heated debates here, as some may not be aware, but there are many occasions whereby hidden (private) users online status' are clearly showing if they are logged in, when in fact we shouldn't be able to see if they are logged in. You will see these users on the community home page under the Who's online section, but if you click to show the users online they then disappear - thus the latter part works as intended.
This might be due to them using cookie blockers, though I could be wrong on this assumption. It may also be down to the users browser settings or another one of those forum niggles - I did highlight the status showing some time ago. Yes the status is not related to this topic but it could be useful in the discussion of a cookie thing being the cause.

Just hope you're OK now, @DS .
As to the truth or otherwise behind this very random forum foul-up, I don't think Lithium/Khorus will ever let us know, but I suspect the fact that PN are being used as guinea pigs for this iteration of their software means we are seeing all the bugs.

Well, apart from aching, at least my hands can type
(and waiting for appointments for further investigations - something I'm very used to having done anyway..:()
I was half expecting Jono to jump on board, but hey ho.

I'd hope they do sort this out. It's gone on for too long now imho. I'd assume others out there also see these random oddities but don't raise them. I am giving it some serious thought about sticking with these forums, there are too many bugs and the light at the end of this tunnel isn't getting any closer.
It's the randomness that gets to me. Same device one day and it's perfectly fine, same device another day and it's, well, we know about this.
