Re: New look community site!

One thing that keeps catching me out with this new forum is when I arrive at it from the PN web site, having already logged in to that site.
I have to log in again with a different name and password. This is OK but I usually then forget that I'm logged in to both sites, especially if I have moved to the forum using the same browser tab rather than opening another tab.
So I often end up logging out of the forum but not out of the PN site - the $64000 question is...does it matter?  Undecided

Very hard to read with those dark colours.

Yeah, text-on-background will be difficult reading for many, but presumably with the new css-based format, both text colour (and font size) and background colour will be user-definable [which would entirely sort out the legibility / visibility factors].
Really like the overall effect of a busy, active "community" (are those silhouetted figures PlusNet staff?)
Good to see the link to the PlusNet UserGroup forums clearly visible also [assuming it's the PUG forums and not just the PUG site that's linked, couldn't really tell from the mock-up].
Regards,
Penny.

I don't see a link to PUG on there Penny - am I looking in the wrong place?
The only reference to PUG that I can see is that there was a browser tab open on the PUG site when the screenshot was made.
Is that what you are talking about, or have I missed something?

oh Sad
I'd thought the link to PUG (centrally at the top) was part of the planned new Comm Site layout.
No idea how to re-include the graphic  Huh but orbrey's original post at http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php?topic=1117.0 shows it.
I'd (perhaps naively) thought that the Comm Site was going to permanently-highlight the PlusNet (customer-based) UserGroup and all that it does, finally.

Re: New look community site!

.
In the interests of keeping all the relevant posts about design and layout of this Community site together, might it be possible to amalgamate this thread and its posts into the existing "forum redesign" thread?

Absolutely - consider it done. Grin

Cheers James.
Have to comment that with the volume of posts these last few weeks, things have stayed amazingly well-ordered, all things considered.

please let us know what you think.

Please put the page up so that I can see if my Text Reader can read the page to me!

Personally, I'm not sure about the colour

I can see why "Matthew" made the background a black theme, it is one of those modern looks!

Is a bit cluttered compared to the current site

I agree.

If it was provided as an option I'd tick the box

I would't tick the box.

Looking forward to see all of the other designs when they get done!

Can we have a look at the other prototypes too?

Yes I would like to see them too!
Quote from: road
but I really do like the layout

Is a bit busy, but I can see why "Matthew" did it!

We all know right now that there is no way everyone is going to agree on the layout or colour schemes, so is there any way to develop a system where the user can pick their own layout scheme - Mambo and Joomla offer this option?

That would be great!

A question about the layout: Would the left hand menu be there when in the forums? If so it's going to be as awful as the old portal forums with the pathetically narrow column for display of the posts.

I agree if it is not just the home page.  If it is all of the site it will be as awful as the old portal forums if not worse.  Huh  Wink

Re: forum redesign

Have to say I like the black theme. Plus it can also be the base template for building others using different colour schemes.
Nice work Smiley

Re: forum redesign

I'm all for having multiple themes so that people can easily choose which one they prefer.
It's obvious that not everyone likes the same thing, i..e. some people are saying they like light backgrounds, others prefer dark backgrounds etc.

Re: forum redesign

They are still working on them.  I keep losing my designers to other projects though.    Angry
The enhanced skin for this site with the fixed SMF templates to make life easier is almost complete (just one page left to fix I think).  We have another designer with a new design in place as well.

Re: forum redesign

Kelly,
Could you do me the biggest of favours and mail me across a copy of the finished stylesheets? I fancy making a couple new themes that PlusNet can use; I'll even throw in a high-res one for you lot who are desperate for one Tongue
