Re: "Forum Search" up the spout?

Yep I agree with Barry here, especially if the search code is unaltered. Run the same query manually on the live forum and the beta forum, compare the results, then compare the database entries on each database for the returned entries (and, if there are any, the returned results which are incorrect). It should give a better insight as to whats happening.

Re: "Forum Search" up the spout?

The last time I checked, the Search was working fine, however we do still plan on looking at using the Google Mini on the site.

Re: "Forum Search" up the spout?

Colin, are you saying that if you search for "drupal" (the complaint of the OP) you get correct results?

I was about to post that very same fact (being the OP)! However the PlusNet load-balancing disconnects this afternoon meant I was beaten to it...
It is clearly working for some searches though...
Just tried "sponsored" as a random word from my head, and only showed 2 posts, both of which had the word. "drupal" however is still definately broken... along with goodness knows how many other words....
This is NOT fixed yet in my humble opinion!

Re: "Forum Search" up the spout?

Right, I think I have some suspicions as to what's happening... the next thing is to work out why it's happening.
SMF seems to cache search results (or bits of) presumably to stop hammering the database regularly. I think this is causing some issues, although I'm at a loss as to why. Using the 'Empty unimportant logs' admin panel link seems to wake it up and cause searches to work again.
Jelv scrapping the DB and starting again is not not really an option, unfortunately - I'm sure you can guess why Smiley

Re: "Forum Search" up the spout?

I realise that's not an option but thought it pointed to a problem with corrupted data or something about the way the database is set up rather than it being a code error.

Is there some sort of search index that can be rebuilt? So re-index the site..... as the error seems to be caused by something like this.

Re: "Forum Search" up the spout?

Probably a red herring but is it possible that one of the servers does searches correctly but the other doesn't?
I was a bit shocked the other day to do a search that gave only posts containing the search term (as it should).  I thought that meant the problem had been fixed, but then tried a different one and problem was back.  Repeating the search that worked gave the problem second time.
I just put that down to one of the mysteries that computers are fond of.

Re: "Forum Search" up the spout?

Is this problem being actively investigated? I've just tried a search to find one of my own recent posts and it failed - "monumental" failed to find this topic. Sad

Re: "Forum Search" up the spout?

I just did that search and it worked (see attachment)  Huh
I assume Community runs on multiple servers, is it possible that one server does it right and the other(s) doesn't/don't?

Re: "Forum Search" up the spout?

I sincerely hope it is not down to specific servers after you suggested that as a possible reason over a fortnight ago. Surely by now they would have investigated that possibility - wouldn't they?
I've just repeated the search and got the same result as you.

Sorry, I told it to rebuild the index (again!) and left it running (as it takes a while :() then forgot to post back here.
