Re: All emails to Gmail bouncing from Freenetname

The last annual charge was November 2017, so that aligns with charging ceasing September 2018 🙂

Ohhhhh. Yeah. I forgot Madasafish accounts were paid annually rather than monthly. Smiley

Re: All emails to Gmail bouncing from Freenetname

Hi, thanks for these concise instructions (re: Townman's reply at the beginning of the thread, unsure how to quote posts here). I believe I am following them all but I'm still getting the gmail bounce problem with mutliple gmail addresses.

In my circumstance, I am trying to send from 'myname'@'account'.plus.com, from the Thunderbird client. In the outgoing SMTP settings I have authentication with password enabled, using relay.plus.net, Port 587 and STARTTLS conenction security picked.

Can you see anything else that I would need to configure in order to mitgate the problem?

My bounce emails I'm recieving are as such:

Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** [GMAIL ACCT] ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server .

Re: All emails to Gmail bouncing from Freenetname

That is disconcerting!

Sending from myname@myaccount.plus.com using relay.plus.net with authentication enabled will invoke DKIM protocols ... which should keep Gmail quiet!!!

Re: All emails to Gmail bouncing from Freenetname

Joining this thread because I'm a FreenetName user who has the same problem. I'd rather not migrate to Microsoft365 if I can fix the problem of sending emails to a GMail recipient.  I'm not clear how you get to the Manage Account screen where adding a TXT record is available? Any guidance would be appreciated,

Re: All emails to Gmail bouncing from Freenetname

The bit I can't seem to figure out is how to do this:

For Plusnet hosted domains, SPF configuration is facilitated by the addition of a TXT record in the domain's DNS settings. Plusnet's DNS configuration tool for hosted domains does not permit the creation of TXT records. However, there is an unsupported "facilitation" which will create an SPF record for a hosted domain.

On the basis that your account ALREADY has a hosted domain, go to Manage Account -> Manage Your Domains -> Configure domain name ... and create an "Additional DNS records (Advanced)" as follows...

@MPFraser if your domain is hosted as a Freenetname user then I'm afraid you dont have any option to add an SPF record.

Your only option is to transfer your domain and email hosting to another supplier.

Re: All emails to Gmail bouncing from Freenetname

Thanks for the advice.  I'm hoping I can just set up my emails using my Microsoft365 subscription.  I don't need the domain moved provided leaving it with Plusnet doesn't stop me moving the email addresses.

Re: All emails to Gmail bouncing from Freenetname

@MPFraser, which Microsoft365 subscription do you have?  I think (though could be wrong, it's been a while since I looked), that it is only the Business versions that include email that can use a custom domain.

I've a M365 Family subscription which was a downgrade about a year ago from an Action Pack subscription.

Re: All emails to Gmail bouncing from Freenetname

I don't think (though could be wrong, and I've not had a recent look) that it includes and domain based email, only @outlook.com, @hotmail.com etc... free based email.  I may have mis-remembered though, or you may have some "extras" included as part as the change from the Action Pack subscription, but it may be worth you making sure.

See this - https://www.thurrott.com/cloud/275561/microsoft-is-almost-killing-outlook-com-custom-domains

Looks like you’ve got a couple of months to set it up … before the option is removed.

Re: All emails to Gmail bouncing from Freenetname

Thanks, that looks like a path to a solution. I just hope that there won't be some sort of clash using an email that ends with @{mydomain}.co.uk, when the {mydomain}.co.uk is still hosted by Plusnet (FreenetName). I'm not planning to change the domain host.

Re: All emails to Gmail bouncing from Freenetname

I think you mean the domain registrar.

The "host" is the platform which provides the services used by the domain (email / website) where as the registrar provides the management of the domain name (that is the DNS configuration).  It is likely that you will need to add TXT records for the domain's mail service to be hosted by Outlook, you will certainly need to point the MX to Outlook.com (see Outlook's guide to what / how this is done).

Plusnet's DNS management interface does not permit the creation of TXT records - you would be better served fully moving the domain name away from the Plusnet environment.
