Can only send emails on home wifi

Hi,
I can only send emails when connected to my home wifi. The outgoing Mail server address is correct and I have SSL switched on. The username and password are showing as optional and say the details are incorrect when I use my email login details. Do I need the username and password fields to be completed in able to send emails when not on my home wifi?

Thanks.

Re: Can only send emails on home wifi

@Cheltk You need to be authenticated when not using your home connection. Which email client are you using?

Hi John,

It’s Apple via my iPhone.

Re: Can only send emails on home wifi

@Cheltk So you are using a '.icloud' address, not a Plusnet one? Sorry for more questions, but we need to make sure exactly where the issue may lie.

Not as far as I am aware. I have the host name as relay.plus.net as the FAQ’s show.

Re: Can only send emails on home wifi

@Cheltk Right, so it is a Plusnet email address. Really silly question, but you do have  mobile data on the phone, and it is switched on?

What happens if you try to send? - the exact error message (if any) would help here.

You need to use your Plusnet accountname & password as authentication on the outgoing server. Whilst the email address will authenticate for incoming mail I'm not sure it will work for SMTP authentication. If you have a secondary mailbox then you can use accountname+mailboxname & the mailbox password. NB the '+' is needed.

Re: Can only send emails on home wifi

Thanks, @MisterW Forgot that, as I haven't got my PN mail on my Apple devices - never bothered setting them up.

Re: Can only send emails on home wifi

I definitely have mobile data on. The message I’m getting is ‘the server rejected one of the recipients addresses’. I’ve tried it with 2 addresses which I know work but same message.

Thanks for your help. Think I’m going to have to put this in the too hard box for the moment!

Re: Can only send emails on home wifi

@Cheltk  Your email address is definitely Plusnet ? Not one of the legacy products Force 9, Madafish etc..

Yes, it’s Plusnet.
