I have used Thunderbird for years. I've recently changed my Plusnet password. Incoming messages work fine but I'm unable to send outgoing messages getting error message "Login to server relay.plus.net with username xxxxxx failed."
The user name is the same as I log into Plusnet but have also tried email address and that fails too. The password is set up the same as on incoming emails. I have tried changing connection security from STATRTTLS to None but that doesn't work either.
I'm totally baffled by this as it was fine until the password change.

@jannic Have you set the 'new' password in TB, or are you still trying to use the old one?

Thunderbird forces you to enter password. Naturally I used the new one. Works with incoming mails.

I've recently changed my Plusnet password
Did you change the main account password OR a mailbox password ?
SMTP authentication using the accountname will need the main account password

After changin a password when you Get Mail or Send it prompts you for the new password. Then it will remember it in password manager

As far as I'm aware there is only the one option in the type of account that I have. If it works for incoming mails in should surely work for outgoing?

If that message mentioning password manager was directed at me - I know, but I'm still none the wiser as regards your problem.

My Gmail fix hit a snag - outgoing emails showed gmail address and all replies went there. At least it proved TB working.
I really would appreciate any ideas as to why my outgoing password is not accepted, I think I've tried everything now. Thanks

@RPMozley That's what I think I've done with gmail - unless I've misunderstood you. But the replies are coming back to gmail. I'd really like them in plusnet as I've been using it for years and the thought of changing hundreds of logins is daunting.
