Email Domain Host Recommendations

Hi. I currently have my email domain hosted with Plusnet. The amount of storage and the age of the system (esp. the dated security side, which cause many email systems to reject my emails) is causing a bit of a problem.

I store locally or forward most of my email so don't need a massive storage but the security side is making my domain pretty useless. So has anyone got any good suggestions for other email hosts that would be cheap? I probably have about 6 email addresses on the domain but would want the catch all directed to me too.

So many hosts and all different so recommendations will be gratefully received.

Thanks

Jon

Re: Email Domain Host Recommendations

I've been very happy with IONOS email (previously 1&1) for 18 years

Available in various storage sizes, SPF & DKIM, multiple domains, etc ...

Re: Email Domain Host Recommendations

What problems are you encountering?

@account.plus.com has DKIM implemented.

@yourdomain.co.uk can have SPF configured either via a script if registered with Plusnet or a txt SPF record if registered elsewhere.

Re: Email Domain Host Recommendations

I'll add my recommendations for Mythic Beasts. Cheaper options if payed up-front (domains registered into the future).

I can recommend Ukhosting.net. I’ve been with them for years.

Re: Email Domain Host Recommendations

Looks good for a single mail box but with multiple boxes the cost soon notches up! Thanks for the suggestion

Re: Email Domain Host Recommendations

Well my domain emails are often rejected by Gmail and some other services. The research I did originally suggested it was because the plusnet email is out dated and uses old security protocols. Also it does seem almost as if they want to phase it out as takes a very low profile and only 1gb of storage.

As for my mail client it complains about the plusnet  security certificate cannot be verified. For sending mail I currently have to use gmail to be sure it will get to the destination!

Thanks

Jon

Re: Email Domain Host Recommendations

If it further helps.

I have more than one domain registered via Mythic Beasts, which also hosts e-mail for those domains. I pay one lot of twenty quid a year for e-mail hosting, which covers both domains. The suite of options for managing e-mail aliases, mailboxes, etc. is (IMO) rather superior to other offerings. The limitation is on throughput and storage, which may not suit others. However, it fits my purposes.

Utter rubbish. @accountname.plus.com email address sent emails are DKIM compliant.

If you are sending as your own domain, SPF can be configured. It is all well documented around here.

Re: Email Domain Host Recommendations

I've used Zoho for email and been happy enough, certainly can't think of anything bad about it once setup. Was a bit confusing as to which "setup part of the website" you were in (like the account management or the email technical side as I recall were different) or something but once you worked that out it was ok.

As I recall it's cheap, has webmail or normal mail etc.

As Townman says above not sure what you are on about with not being able to send mail, I've JUST had an issue which is why I'm sniffing around here but normally once setup it's been fine sending anything through plusnet for a domain. It's up to you to set this up for your domain. Unfortunately I don't think I've ever seen a "definitive" description of how to set this up on plus.net official help but the forums have described it a number of times. I've just read it's been changed a bit as a I've used madasafish for many years and last time I looked a few years ago it was still that but anyway. It's described in for example this, with Townman posting clearly how to do it, relatively recent:

https://community.plus.net/t5/Email/Using-plusnet-in-SPF-record/td-p/1946558

SPF is VERY important, there is another thing called DKIM that I've been less stressed about configuring.
