Interestingly I have just received a non delivery notice for an email I copied to myself! IThis is a new development.
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently:
* john@*******.globalnet.co.uk
Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** john@******.globalnet.co.uk ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server .

Wondering if Gmail has an issue with one of the sub-brands.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links

Mine is globalnet. It is not happening though when using IMAP and that coincidentally sends from ******@ globalnet.co.uk and not john@********.globalnet.co.uk

What are the correct server settings please and I will check. Mind you nothing has changed and it was working fine until a few days ago. It only affects the POP account.

POP / IMAP are RECEIVING considerations.
BOTH use the same SMTP configuration.
Ensure that for whichever works, the other uses the same SMTP configuration - same userID same password.

smtp.plus.net
port 25
Encr STARTTLS
Outgoing server requires authentication
Use same settings as incoming server
The bit I don't get is that it works for all emails except gmail on the POP account and for all emails on the IMAP accounts

For the configurations you describe as IMAP and POP3 are they both using the same authentication details on the SMTP SERVER? Somewhere herein I think you suggested the inbound servers were using different email addresses.

Hi,
I tried using port 587 but it made no difference. The reason it was on 25 is because that was the default that Outlook automatic set up provided.
I am away for a few days but will try and do some more experiments when I am back to see if I can shed any more light on this rather odd behaviour. It was mentioned earlier that there was some history of problems when sending from name@********.globalnet.co.uk rather than *********@globalnet.co.uk and I am begining to suspect this is the issue but that doesn't explain why the error has suddenly started. As it is unique to gmail addressees my gut feel is that it must be something at their end is not liking something about the sending address/server security.

I also changed port and no difference. Also it does not work when using webmail. Finding this all very confusing and frustrating, Any advice on how I get Plusnet to acknowledge the issue and help!

Having done extensive tests I am now convinced that the problem is definitely when sending from my name@******.globalnet.co.uk addresses. It is not a problem from ******@globalnet.co.uk. And is only when sending to gmail addressees.
this is causing me no end of problems, really grateful if anyone can help solve this problem that started a week ago..
