Re: Emails suddenly no longer sending

Old Zonealarm is now 'Checkpoint next gen virus and firewall'

Anyway, ran the curl test on another machine that does not have Zonealarm

Also no VPN and correct IP reported

Ran with/without the standard Windows firewall and got the same 0.0.0.0 effect.

Re: Emails suddenly no longer sending

Just a thought but I wonder if it's anything to do with this which Plusnet have kindly omitted to actively advise us of:

https://www.plus.net/help/email-account-changes/

Yet another reason to be giving Plusnet the old heave-ho when the broadband contract finishes.

Re: Emails suddenly no longer sending

I've just logged a fault.  There's a known problem with Force9 email accounts.

My fault now has a response of:

It would seem the issue is coming from an internal server of ours and most likely connected to your Static IP.

With your permission I would like to either change your Static IP or change you to dynamic temporarily to see if this helps with the issue, whichever is going to cause less of a problem for you.

Re: Emails suddenly no longer sending

To add have just tried WITH a VPN and connected fine to sites & mail servers.

Will advise if the PN fix of a new IP helps - sounds promising though

Re: Emails suddenly no longer sending

To close this one off, @dave has fixed it.

My fixed IP was set up in two places so some return traffic was going to the one I wasn't connected to.

Re: Emails suddenly no longer sending

Have you passed on an old Plusnet router to someone?

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

No

This is my first PN router - on ADSL I had a 'user supplied' and that is still in my possession.

I have a slightly cryptic ticket just opened about

double scanned at BT distribution centre

and the router being 300 miles away from where they thought it was

The delay between shipping it to me (15 Feb) and finally going online (18 April) added to the confusion

Re: Emails suddenly no longer sending

That is a different experience. Sounds as though two routers became associated with your account within the warehouse.

Re: Emails suddenly no longer sending

A general response to "can't send emails" problems.... for anyone who comes looking in the future.....

There seem to be several things that can stop you being able to send emails:

1) VPN

2) Your IP address deemed to be a spam source

3) Incorrect server / account details

4) You need to log in to send if not on your home broadband

The first two often crop up as "it was working yesterday, but not today. Things to try:

1) Turn OFF your VPN if you use one. Try turning it on if you normally send emails with it off. (VPN endpoints are often blocked)

2) Your IP has somehow got onto a spam list, that PlusNet use. Contact PlusNet for help, they might be able to take your IP off the list. If you have a phone with the email set up on it, try turning off the Wi-Fi, and send it over mobile: this might be a useful short-term get-around. If your PC connects via Wi-Fi, set up a hotspot on your phone, and use that to send emails (both mean you bypass the blocked broadband IP)

3) The third happens when you're trying to configure an account, eg on a new phone. Check your server and credential details carefully. Remember to use your credentials to both send and receive if you ever use that device on a non-PlusNet line.

4) The last happens if you have a laptop / mobile, and try to send emails when away from home: Remember to use your credentials to both send and receive if you ever use that device on a non-PlusNet line.
