There has been a lot of speculation for a long time on this topic, but as far as the SUs know, no actual decision has been made.  This would not be the first time that a first line agent has shot from the hip and being found out to be mis-informed. This is not usually the way such decisions are communicated.

Hi Townman,

Plusnet host my domain name, and i am suffering with the same issue where all my emails to gmail accounts get rejected saying they are unauthenticated using my office 365 client. shouldnt they be authenticated if they go through relay.plus.net?

Sorry, but i still dont understand what i need to do to get this fixed?

If your domain is hosted by Plusnet, then proceed as per this post https://community.plus.net/t5/Email/Mail-bouncing-to-gmail/m-p/1907102#M41985

It may take up to 6 hours , but that should add an SPF record to your domain DNS and should allow gmail to accept email from your domain

Thank you for the below, however I couldn’t find the “Manage my domain” in the manage account screen, this may be as my broadband moved to BT but I thought plusnet was still hosting my domain? I was a plusnet customer for over 17 years but recently moved to BT as I needed fibre to the premises.. any thoughts?

How recently , I thought Plusnet had stopped allowing email/hosting only accounts some time ago ?

Plusnet have been hosting my domain for about 10 years I think.. not sure how I get them to make the changes if I can’t see the options on my account now my broadband is with BT?

If you moved to BT  since Jun last year, I'm surprised you still have a Plusnet account at all

The domain is still hosted by Plusnet.

Where are you looking for the manage my mail option?  Can you please post a screen shot of the bottom of the Manage My Account page.  There should be Manage My Mail there and Manage My Domain.

Hi Townman, here is a screenshot of manage my account..

the history was that my plusnet broadband over copper was poor and they couldnt meet the service level as i am quite a long way from the exchane so they recommended i use bt and they keep hosting my domain for free.. although I didnt have the manage my domain link on screen, i followed your link and that worked. I then added a DNS entry Screenshot 2023-07-04 104500.png

Many thanks for all the help.. i assume i can try emailing a gmail account in a few hours and hope it works?

To be sure, you should wait until after 5pm (to allow 6 hours) for the change to be applied.  I just looked, your domain has not yet had the SPF record published.  I can look for the details in the public space; I cannot look inside Plusnet's systems.

In regard to the screen shot, was the black footer immediately below what you posted?  On some viewport sizes, on first rendering the bottom of page content gets masked by the black footer.  Resizing the browser window (restore down / maximise) causes the page to re-render and disclose the bottom of the page content.

Looks like they have a mail only account from a bygone era, long before we stopped offering them.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Thank you Townman, I tried resizing the page as you suggested, also tried ooming out etc, and no other content was displayed except the black footer.

@Townman the additional MX record doesnt appear to be there either ? Is that actually published or is it just trapped by the script ?

I cant check anymore since my domain is no longer hosted at PN
