Yes, this was my thinking too.
So I have cleared the inbox, webmail is now working. 😊 I have sent and received a test email.
Access to the account by apps is not working. Bluemail on a Fire tablet is saying the password is incorrect. Mail on an ipad is just not synching, i imagine it is possibly the same, returning an incorrect password. I am using the madasafish password (the same as email/password combination as I use to login to webmail, which is working?)

Success!
I changed to incoming email to POP instead of IMAP and now Mail is working on iPad. (I will sort the Fire out some other time.)
Many thanks for your patience @Townman .

Oh NO!!!
Please do not mix POP3 and IMAP where you access the same mail box from more than one device. It will cause total mayhem! What you send from a POP3 device only lives on the POP3 device. What is of more concern, is that the POP3 device wil be the only device you can see your mail on. Really bad karma!!!!!!!!!!
Given you had a multitude of issues with the large mailbox, it was too difficult to see the wood for the trees. If the password is wrong on an iPad it will be very explicit about that in the account set up.
If there is no warning in the account set up and the inbox is not populating, but others are, then you probably need to set the IMAP root folder to inbox.
