Re: Help setting up android phone

Yes, the outgoing server port is wrong.

For SSL security you need port 465 ( note this is depracated )

Port 587 is for STARTTLS

Re: Help setting up android phone

Great! Taht got my phone working.

Still struggling with my wifes.

How do the attached settings look?

I assume as my wifes windos pc with Outlook 2010 is set up for pop3 that the phone will have to be pop3?

The incoming server is wrong, it should be mail.plus.net

not necessarily, pop3 or imap defines how the email client handles mail. pop3 downloads email locally to the client (and normally deletes it from the server although it can be configured to leave it) , imap accesses mail from the server. Where multiple clients are accessing the same mailbox , imap is preferable.

Re: Help setting up android phone

These are the options

IMAP: imap.plus.net port 993 encryption SSL/TLS
POP3: mail.plus.net port 995 encryption SSL/TLS
SMTP: relay.plus.net port 587 encryption STARTTLS
*** For SSL security you need port 465 ***
SMTP: relay.plus.net port 465 encryption SSL

HTH

Re: Help setting up android phone

Fix

Have changed server name but still wont work.

You need to confirm that the credentials (username & password) you are using for your wifes account are correct by trying to login to webmail with the same credentials

Re: Help setting up android phone

So many times we tech people assume the worst, and come up with all sorts of things to check, when the reality is that the problem is actually a simple one, that we should have double-checked much sooner!!!

Glad you finally sorted it all out!

@paul_blitz

Not so much "we tech people make assumptions" but rather a reasonable acceptance of what we are told or is inferred that a user has the right pairing of username and password.  Such is why a double check that the user can access webmail is so very helpful.
