Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

@Baldrick1 Understood, but I would have thought that as it is is a Globalnet email address, then it would need to be administered from the Globalnet account?

Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

Hi Baldrick

yes thanks for this..

I have managed to do this but it would appear not in relation to my globalnet mail box. So i can see how to enter the domain names into the blocked domain names section under the spam tab; but it appears not for my globalnet one as i cant see it.

i cant see anything that mentions globalnet unless the postmaster one is something to do with it?

Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

Hi jab1

Thanks for this

Something simple i'm sure  but ive never really had problems with it before. But as my globalnet email address has followed me through several providers i think all the old ones are addressed slightly different from normal Plusnet customers these days/

Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

@nclark777 I have no experience of Globalnet, but I would have thought you would need to set the spam filter via that account. Do you remember how to access that account - if it is still possible? Given its age, I don't know if it is.

The alternative is to 'report' each instance of messages from this sender via the 'mark as spam' (medical box) tab in PN webmail. May be a little slow, and mean that you would have to initially access the PN webmail before downloading mail to your mail client - if you have one - but Cloudmark would eventually recognise the sender as unwanted and silently block all email from them.

I believe  that Globalnet services were managed by Madasafish. Can you log into their portal and go through a similar route?: https://secure.madasafish.com/myaccountdx/summary/

Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

Hi John

I will give all these suggestions a go. I will also check back through my paperwork re old settings.

I must admit being an old 'legacy' email address certain things have been a bit hit and miss. For example i never receive any warnings about my reaching the maximum amount of space allowed. I generally have to keep an  eye on these other wise the account just stops. I know when this happens as all my emails stop!! having all the spam emails coming in from one senders domain address at the moment means exasperates the situation.  just means i have to go into webmail and delete it all every couple of days.

I think I should be able to sort this and think i may have to raise a ticket if i cant resolves through the forum/chats.

I do appreciate all the work you guys do and its a great help to understand better.

Thanks again.

I'm out and about this weekend so will get round to answering everyone at adhoc times.

Thanks for your efforts.

Cheers Neil

Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

Hi Again

I just clicked on the link yes nota lot on there Plusnet took on Madasafish for for email back in 2007. In 2016 it took on the Broadband and homephone parts of the business.

Does not appear to be anywhere to access email settings on any of the Madasafish site at all.

I think any of this stuff re my globalnet account is probably sat in Plusnet somewhere in a dark room!!

Will keep checking and thanks for all your help.

may raise a ticket if i cant sort out myself a bit frustrating . Will dig out any old paper work this weekend.

ThanksN

Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

Just to confirm, I’m afraid there’s no user configurable spam filter for Globalnet (either your side or ours).

And unfortunately, mailbox quota warnings aren’t sent either. Same applies for any Madasafish accounts.

I second the above advice of marking the emails as spam in webmail as eventually and with enough reports, they should hopefully be blocked at a supplier level.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

@nclark777

These old legacy email accounts tend to be very restrictive and come with little storage space. Some would say that they are not suitable for the far more extensive and important role for which email is used these days.

I know that it's a right pain to change addresses but have you considered moving to a different email platform? Those tied to an ISP also lock you in to that supplier as moving will likely lead to the loss of the email service, it certainly does with Plusnet.

Options are the international 'freebie' services, or you can have your own personal domain name and a professional email service for about £30 per year.

Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

Thanks yes useful info. I might look at that. As you say almighty pain!
I can get by at the moment and will put stuff into my spam folder as long as i can.
Ithink i can handle roughly 700 emails as long as they are not too a chunky size with attachments. However this is across all folders. Thanks for your help advice. N

@nclark777 Do you usually view mail via webmail, or do you use a mail client?

Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

Normally through Outlook on my laptop.

on my smartphone  i access my my globalnet email through the gmail app which was set up when i bought the phone (an OPPO 54).

it has a gmail mailbox (never really use to be honest unless i really have to) and my normal globalnet.co.uk email maibox. The globalnet mailbox is the default one.

Re: Inappropriate emails from one domain name are clogging my mailbox

Fix

@nclark777

I've a few accounts with different ptoviders but I'm increasingly of the opinion that of the "free" email providers Microsoft is the best.

If you use Outlook you most likely have a Microsoft account of some kind.

You could slowly migrate to using that.

Also if you have the Microsoft Office "Outlook" then you can apply message rules to a sender. I think this works with any IMAP account (so most likely would work with your globalnet.co.uk mailbox)
