Re: Mail bouncing to gmail

Hi Townman<

I have followed your instructions, do you know how long it takes for the SPF to be updated and if there is anything else I need to do?

Many thanks

Re: Mail bouncing to gmail

@magpieant assuming you're referring to adding the MX record workaround, the script to create the SPF runs every 6 hrs. There's then any DNS propagation time. You can use https://mxtoolbox.com/ to check for the SPF record. Enter your domain name and click the 'mx lookup' button. The button should now have a dropdown menu, use that to selct the 'SPF record lookup' and click the button, that should show the SPF record if it has been created

Re: Mail bouncing to gmail

Having been signposted to this I was so pleased that I was about to overcome the issue. Not so. Followed the PlusNet instructions to the letter and my Outlook 365 simply goes on advising that it is repairing the system until I get fed up and stop it.

The thread does give me a further concern in that PlusNet are planning to drop email. Does that mean they plan to drop hosting my website as well? My email address relates to my PlusNet hosted domain.

Re: Mail bouncing to gmail

@Brugmansia, Plusnet haven't supplied any instructions on this thread.  Also if Outlook is "repairing the system" then that isn't anything to do with what is being discussed here with SPF records.

Also if Outlook is "repairing the system" then that wouldn't be related to Plusnet's mail servers, but your computer.

You would be best starting your own thread, detailing the issue that you are having and someone may be able to offer some help with what is wrong with your computer.

Re: Mail bouncing to gmail

There was a response advising that I should check my server settings so I di that. My settings were correct other than STARTTLS wasnot an option when I initially set the email account up so I changed that and thats what set the indefinite processing off.

Regret that this is entirely to do with the forum message to cure sending to gmail issues and my Outlook works perfectly on other accounts and sending to accounts other than to gmail so I hope that explains the relevance.
