I have managed to get Plusnet to get my email working again but they seem unable to retrieve the missing 10 days.
My fellow travellers have not had this problem & retrieved their emails from BT on their return.
Can anyone suggest anything? Plusnet are trying to tell me that it's a storage problem - which it isn't. Heaven only knows what I've missed in my messages over 10 days

Which email brand does this relate to?
All of the legacy brands have a hard fair usage policy (FUP) allowance for email storage. If you exceed the FUP allowance, you can neither receive nor send emails until you delete some to make space. In such circumstances, it is down to the sending service to reattempt transmission of the email. Typically they do this for 5 days and them return the email to the sender and a non-delivery report.
Plusnet branded email (@account.plus.com) also has a FUP but it is not a hard one. Users receive weekly warning notices when their usage exceed 75% of their allocation and then two weekly notices when having exceeded 100% before the largest mailbox(es) are archived to reduce the utilisation. During this time emails are still received as normal.

Thanks. I have been made aware of the limitations of my mailbox but it has never been an issue before.... & it still didn't bring back in the missing emails from less than 5 days previously when I totally cleared the storage

it has never been an issue before
have you ever not read your mailbox and deleted the trash for three weeks before? It is not just a factor of elapsed time, but you only need someone to have shared a few high resolution photographs via email (rather than using a more appropriate technology) and your FUP allowance would be fully utilised.
It is entirely down to the sending service to attempt redelivery. The duration for which they will attempt retransmission is not defined universally, but is typically 5 days.

Well - I've never had this problem before &m I travel quite extensively. If the mailbox capacity has been reduced then it would have been nice to have been warned.
FYI - I am religious about deleting unwanted/spurious stuff from my Inbox, Spam filter & deleted items. Obviously, the storage will have gone over if they were storing emails & not delivering them

If the storage capacity has been exceeded, delivery is not accepted, so "they were storing emails & not delivering them" has no bearing on the matter.
You have not advised of the email brand. The storage limit on the legacy brands has not be changed. IIRC they are all 250mB which is not much if email is being used to share / distribute photographs.
All folders (inbox / sent / drafts / deleted items) count towards the storage allowance.
