Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

Again thanks - the link helped a little although the circumstances are not exactly the same.

I have added an spf record to 1and1 with the PN servers, so hopefully it will kick in when it propogates.  I will probably move away from PN servers when ready as I have other bits to fix first 🙂

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

mxtoolbox is showing an SPF record which looks good to me!

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

I have read the fix and applied to a domain that is on my Plusnet account. I am sure will work but it won't solve my gmail bouncing problems as it is now not my main email account, which is basic Plusnet one, format xx@xxx.plus.com.  How do I stop Google rejecting emails for this account.

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

I believe DKIM is automatically enabled for all xxx.plus.com accounts , so Google should not be rejecting from those

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

Depends on why they are being bounced - what is the precise message. Are they bounced if sent via webmail?

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

I never use webmail.

Let me explain my situation in more detail. I am on the committee of a local organisation, which body is around a dozen strong, seven of which have Google Mail.. Emails between the membership flow fairly frequently, some requiring responses and it is these that give rise to Google bounces but not every time. If I start new emails those never bounce, it is always my replies to incoming emails that get bounced.

Today I have replied to three emails, only the third one bounced.

Up to now I have surmised that the issue arises because replies to emails contain loads of email addresses and have taken to deleting all embedded email addresses. That often works but far from every time.

Hope this gives you something more to go on.

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

Not entirely.

Attempting to send (reply) to emails using webmail as a diagnostic helps to eliminate a number of potential issues with Gmail.

Do you have an EXACT rejection status please.  Gmail has a multitude of unhelpful reasons for throwing away emails sent to free Gmail accounts.  Gmail will readily deliver the same email to a paid for Gmail addresses.

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

I am trying to install your fix for missing SPF info to my domain DNS using the PlusNet page which allows addition of custom DNS records.

Your instruction says Type=MX, Priority=999999, Right field=please-add-spf-records.

However, it doesn't say what to put in the 'Left field' box and I can't figure it out.

What should it be?

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

Left field isn't used for MX records , leave it blank

Thank you, that seems to have done the trick.

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

@MisterW This appears to have fixed it for me.
Many thanks.

It even fixed email send fails to some business email addresses which I assume have Gmail hidden behind their domain email address.

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

I added this after reading the messages on the forum

Left field Type Pri Right field
  mx  999999  please-add-spf-records

to my domain a couple of days ago, but still no joy sending to gmail accounts.  I also changed the email security to STARTTLS but then Thunderbird would not download any emails at all.

Any help would be appreciated I have an event coming up soon and need to email 6 people who have gmail accounts, this is a nightmare, seriously thinking of moving away from PN if it can't be resolved.

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

@albagames This gmail issue affects all ISPs - the issue is due to Gmails decision to implement as mandatory non-mandatory RFCs for receiving mail by those who have 'free' mail accounts with them.

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

@albagames have you checked that your domain now has an SPF record ?

I also changed the email security to STARTTLS but then Thunderbird would not download any emails at all.

STARTTLS is a setting for the outgoing server not the incoming.
