Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

That doesnt look like youve actually checked for an SPF record, rather just done a DNS check.

Goto https://mxtoolbox.com/ enter your domain name and click the MX lookup button, that will check the MX record. The button will now have a drop down menu , select SPF record lookup from the drop down and click the button again. That should check for an SPF record and should show one like

v=spf1 a mx include:_spf-internal.plus.net include:_spf-internal2.plus.net ~all

Thanks for the quick response. I have looked this up and there is no SPF record there.

Are you able to advise how to fix this?

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

Is your domain actually hosted by Plusnet ?

if so the name servers should be ns1.force9.net & ns2.force9.net .

If they are, then adding the dummy mx record as previously described should have created the SPF record.

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

Hi MisterW,

Yes albagames.co.uk is hosted by plusnet and the spf tag is in the spf record

v=spf1 a mx include:_spf-internal.plus.net include:_spf-internal2.plus.net ~all

Also I see one of the server names from the tests in the MXLookup

ns1.force9.net

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

I can see both servers listed in the Whois record

ns1.force9.net
ns2.force9.net

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

So you have an SPF record now.

As long as you send mail via the plusnet server relay.plus.net then you should be fine

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

First test is working, thanks so much for your help, I'll do some more extensive tests to other folks - first one was to my own gmail account.

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

I did attempt to reply to Townman's post but it doesn't seem to have got through, maybe because of the copied coding.

Anyway can we look at my problem in another way. The Gmail bouncing problem arises when I use my normal PlusNet email a/c xxx.exmouth.plus.com. and I cannot find a way of correcting the issue for that address. I also have another, not regularly used, domain name and I believe that I have corrected that one. But it is not my main email address. Could someone point in the direction of how to solve that one. Bear in mind I am a very ancient Briton, not a young tech whiz kid!!

At the moment f I get a google bounce form my normal Plusnet address I now resend then from the alternative address and so far none have bounced.

Re: Replies to Gmail accounts being rejected

It would be good to focus solely on your you@exmouth.plus.com experience.

ALL native Plusnet ISP email has DKIM - one of the A or B non-mandatory protocols demanded by Gmail free accounts.

If you are receiving rejections from Gmail for that email address, then that needs looking at as a very distinct matter.  If you send through webmail using that domain as a the sending address, do you encounter issues?

In your email client, is the SMTP server configured for authentication?

Apologies for slow response. Having checked, I can advise the the SMPT server does not require does not require authentication.

Any further advices would be appreciated.

Hi @exmouth

What does the bounceback message specifically advise?

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

That would indicate that the sending domain doesnt have either SPF or DKIM enabled. Are you sending with an <account>.plus.com address as the FROM: ?

AIUI all <account>.plus.com addresses will have DKIM enabled, I've just tested mine and it is definitely enabled
