Re: SMTP problems??

I have now sent test emails successfully from: desktop Thunderbird, Gmail mobile, K9 mobile

All using my original metronet setup on all 3 except UN: myemail->myemail@metronet.co.uk. All these connect ultimately via my router connected to PN.

Not as yet tried to setup Thunderbird on my mobile.

All my configs are (as Plusnet help page still says for metronet, plus minor change for UN)

  • mail.metronet.co.uk, port 110, all security fields: None
  • smtp.metronet,co.uk, port 25, all security fields: None

Thanks it seems to @plusnettony

Re: SMTP problems??

Still not able to send.

Connection security: none

Authentication method: Password, transmitted insecurely.

outgoing server: relay.plus.net on port 25

User name on outgoing server is still not @metronet.co.uk although have changed it in settings.

Re: SMTP problems??

Outlook is able to send e-mail via the smtp metronet server now.

In thunderbird I can now send email if the settings are port 25 no connection security ,password transmitted insecurely.

However the receive settings now needed to be changed in thunderbird to use the revised username name username@metronet.co.uk as before but the server settings for pop3.metronet.co.uk seem to now require port 110 connection security NONE password transmitted insecurely!

Re: SMTP problems??

I can now send email through Port 25 without any security. What was the solution?

Re: SMTP problems??

Outgoing server set to smtp.metronet.co.uk on port 587.

Able to send to an outlook and an aol address but oddly sent to three gmail addresses and only received by one.

Re: SMTP problems??

I’m using Apple iPhone mail client. No option to remove any password authentication. I also tried using outlook client with no password authentication using port 25 and with both types of username (full email or username). ALl in smtp server.

@plusnettony

Again thanks for resolving this problem. Are you able to share why the issue arose in the first place and what had to be done to fix it? Be a techie as you like - I am 🙂

Re: SMTP problems??

Anyone know why I can send emails over WiFi using Apple Mail client using password security and port 25 but never using mobile data. This has been an issue now for months.

Re: SMTP problems??

@Dmorley Have you set authentication to 'on'? You cannot send from a PN email address - whatever 'brand' of email you are using  - unless this is done.
