Re: IMAP Server closing connection or slow

Hi @CWatters

Thanks for reaching out, hope you're keeping well Smiley

Have you done a password reset recently and is this when you've been having trouble with the email client?

Re: IMAP Server closing connection or slow

Hi Curtis,

Checking back I see on the 10th January I requested a password reset and received an email with a link to reset the password but did not do so as I remembered the correct password. I've received several hundred email to my tablet since the 10th Jan with no issue so I don't think that's the cause.

As a check.. I've just tried entering a deliberately incorrect password into my email client on the tablet and it gives an error when I check the account settings. I put it back to the correct password and the error goes away but still no email.

I've also just checked the settings on my tablet and PC and I'm using:

PC - POP3

Servers mail.plus.net (port 110) and relay.plus.net (port 587)

Tablet - IMAP

Servers imap.plus.net (Port 143) and smtp.plus.net (port 587)

Username, password and email address all seems to be the same but none of these settings have been touched in years.

Regards

Colin

Re: IMAP Server closing connection or slow

Different email clients have different error / timeout management strategies.

I did some testing on an Android phone today and it was totally pants across several email clients.

iPhone email client and proper outlook on a PC faired much better.

Webmail was somewhat improved after lunch but still sluggish. Not looked since.

Re: IMAP Server closing connection or slow

Thanks Townman.

I've been trying all day to get my Android to sync meesages and it's just managed to do so once. So I think my settings are OK.

Then I sent a test message and that arrived at my PC in seconds but not my tablet.

So yes it really looks like some sort of time out issue specific to Android?

Re: IMAP Server closing connection or slow

I see nothing has changed.

Checked my iOS Mail app inbox and oddly a number of attempted deletes that returned have now gone.

Of more concern is the return of an old problem. While deleting more emails the inbox completely emptied. As expected, very slowly it filled up again oldest first but strangely with a gap in the middle of the timeline that started to fill later albeit very slowly and is still happening.

As this seems to be the well known old PN generated fault, is it possible that the current one has just been fixed?

Re: IMAP Server closing connection or slow

Not an Android problem for me. In fact today it has been working better on my Android phone than on my PC.

Re: IMAP Server closing connection or slow

Re my above post, the gap in the middle remains nothing before November 2021 has been downloaded.

Not happy.

Re: Servers slow today ?

All emails now (seem to*) be in the iOS inbox. Deleted emails mostly seem not to bounce back.

However webmail (same access as always since October 2019: Chrome on iOS) remains useless.

*back to the start on this device but have not checked for gaps.

Re: Servers slow today ?

Indeed, on a very quick look webmail seems to have been restored to normal.

I will check all aspects later but for now it's good news.
