um I getting a bit confused here, sorry
I'm using Modzilla Thunderbird as my email softward which as you probably know links to plus.net to sent out to people, they then reply back through the domain etc ( but I'm sure you already know how this works ) we seem to be getting emails but some people are saying they are not getting the reply, so I'm not sure what is going on

I have no removed this from the domains as I have been told it shouldn't effect email forwarding
So I've moved from 123-reg to google domains and emails are still hit and miss if they get to people..
So the common factor is either thunderbird, nominet or plus.net
It's crazy has anyone else had these issues, where people get emails, people them don't get them.. it's so hit and miss, and we have no idea if important emails are getting to anyone so we are sending them multiple times
any ideas gratefully received

I am a total amateur compared to the experts who are trying to help you, but my simplistic thoughts:
I am confused about all this forwarding stuff to which you are referring. As I understand it, your domain is with Google and includes both email send and receive services? Assuming this, surely you just need to set up Thunderbird to both send and receive using the settings required to access your Google account?
Why is there any need to go anywhere near the Plusnet email service?

okay so two parts to this reply
1) email forwarding is setup on google, so they host our domain but forward emails to my plus.net email account, which thunderbird grabs.. but for some reason sending and receiving seems hit and miss
2) at the moment we are now getting some emails from people who said they didn't get any, so hopefully this might mean what ever it was is fixed.
Funny enough I had someone else at my work ( customer ) mention they are also having email issues with there's so including me that is 3 people now, all random different isp's so hopefully it was a internet issue
time will tell
thank you all for your advice and help

@ukanimal - Can you clarify in more detail where you are sending emails from "but for some reason sending and receiving seems hit and miss" are the emails you send and receive on google hit and miss or from and to thunderbird that is setup with Plusnet?

I am using thunderbird to send and receive emails, which link to plus.net and go out to people
they reply using my domain, which google forward that email to my plus.net email, which thunderbird then collects from plus.net servers
I do seem to be getting and sending, but last time I said this is all stopped again

some people are now saying they are getting this
Be careful with this message
The sender hasn't authenticated this message so Gmail can't verify that it actually came from them.
or it's in the junk / spam
What has changed over the least few months, email forwarding used to be so simple, buy a domain add a forwarding to point to plus.net email and down load if from the plus.net mail server and send back.. now everything is getting spammed marked or not even getting through.
makes you think what is the point of having domains now... sorry rant over, it's just be a right royal pain in the...
the two domains in question - www.timellis.co.uk and www.ruthellis.co.uk - never had a problem with them for years until this year

@ukanimal the requirement for authentication of sent email using SPF & DKIM is becoming more prevalent , particularly by GMAIL. Looking up your domains , the ruth one has an SPF record but the tim one doesn't.
In reality , in these days of hightened spam detection, using simple forwarding and sending via a third party for domain emails is going to be fraught with potential problems. You should really use a proper hosted email package that can provide SPF & DKIM for your domains, and then use the hosting suppliers servers to send and receive. It need not be expensive, in the order of £20/yr providing you dont need >2GB storage ( which is more than Plusnet provide ). I know of one supplier who will host multiple domains for £20/yr with unlimited mailboxes, so you could use one account for both your domains.

thanks for checking - I've copied the dns record from ruth to mine to see if that works.
yeah I think I may have to go back to my own hosting packages again to allow direct email, just thought moving to google domains might have solved the issue.
thanks again, time to do some more research, but it doesn't help when emails are being stuffed up in the mean time

I'd start by looking at https://www.mythic-beasts.com/hosting . They will be very cost effective in your situation with two domains, since you could host both on the same account , whereas most others will charge extra ( or a separate account ) for multiple domains. You'll obviously need to consider transferring any existing mail from your Plusnet mailboxes, if you use POP3 then its not an issue since your mail is stored locally, if its IMAP then you will need to copy any existing mail.

If Google is hosting your domain ... why are you complicating matters by forwarding emails to Plusnet? Why not just connect Thunderbird to Goole's IMAP and SMTP servers and remove Plusnet's email services from the equation?
What are we missing from your description of what you are seeking to achieve?

don't worry my brother-in-law had a look when he visited from the states and spotted a drop down box in thunderbird outgoing servers was saying the wrong thing, so now it's fixed and plus.net add their info to emails and they are getting through without being spammed.
