Strange URL

I clicked on my webmail bookmark earlier and it appeared as: https://webmail.plus.net/squirrelmail/src/login.php

What is this, please?

Not sure why it appeared: I've never used Squirrel!

@Silverwhistle

You may not have realised it but if you've used Plusnet webmail then you've used squirrel mail.

Re: Strange URL

Squirrel is the BASIC webmail. The normal webmail client is roundcube.

Re: Strange URL

@Townman

I don’t normally use Plusnet email. I assume that they are synchronised IMAP servers? When do users connect to squirrel mail and when Roundcube?

Re: Strange URL

@Baldrick1 The default is Roundcube, but you can select Sqirrelmail  'basic webmail', from the webmail start page.

Re: Strange URL

Thanks @jab1 . I  can see that now. I won’t bother asking why or what the differences are as I don’t use it.

Re: Strange URL

Couldn't tell you anyway, I only use it if I get a spam mail, to report it.

Hi hairless Richard,

You hint at a common misunderstanding about "webmail".  Webmail is not a separate mail service but is an IMAP email client, running on Plusnet's web servers, which access the same mail server as that accessed by other email clients (both IMAP and POP3) run on PCs, tablets and telephones.

Plusnet offers two web based email clients: Round-Cube (aka advanced) and Squirrel mail (aka basic).

Does that help?
