Thunderbird gives a "Secure Connection Failed" error when trying to download mail.

Hi all

My Plusnet email was working perfectly until monday morning, at 06:47 I received a mail without a problem.

The next mail threw up the error in Thunderbird.

I am using Mailwasher with Thunderbird and have been for a very long time, without this error.

There are now about 30 emails in Mailwasher waiting to be dowloaded  but none will load into Thunderbird.

I am a complete numpty with email programs and haven't a clue what I should be looking for although I am reasonably computer savvy otherwise.

I did have a quick search on Thunderbird forums but couldn't understand some of what was going on.

I am using Windows 10 22H2 (latest version) and Thunderbird 64 bit (latest version)

any suggestions where to start?

Cheers

Keith

Re: Thunderbird gives a "Secure Connection Failed" error when trying to download mail.

If you know that the emails are in mailwasher, but are not being delivered to Thunderbird, then turn to mailwasher support.

If mailwasher has downloaded the emails, the issue is not the Plusnet mail service.

To prove the point, reconfigure Thunderbird to get the emails direct from the Plusnet mail servers.

Re: Thunderbird gives a "Secure Connection Failed" error when trying to download mail.

Hi Thank you for reading my post.

As I understand it Mailwasher doesn't download anything, but gives a preview of what mail has arrived at the server.

Only when you "wash" the mail.does anything get downloaded and that is with the mail program (In this case Thunderbird)

Is that not correct?

If I try downloading directly into Thunderbird I get the same error.

However I have since been online with a second computer which had a redirect on certain mails on the plusnet e-mail account.

When Mailwasher was opened it found the required e-mails, washed them and Thunderbird downloaded them without error.

Would I be correct in assuming then that the problem is with Thunderbird on the first computer?

Re: Thunderbird gives a "Secure Connection Failed" error when trying to download mail.

Hi Keith,

That is a possibility, but I think not likely.

With hindsight, you are correct about mailwasher.

Were the computers both connected over the same internet link?

I would suspect that the two devices have different server time out settings and amongst the emails in question one was significantly large.
