@shutter your forum password has nothing to do with your account password. Sounds to me like you're using the wrong password especially as webmail login fails

Hmm... interesting.....

from the Email setup guide faq`s....

I can`t remembere my username or password  - what can I do ...

answer

The username and password for your main (or first) Plusnet email address are the same as your account username and password.

For a reminder of your account username, check the welcome email or letter we sent you when you joined Plusnet or set up your Plusnet email address. If you can't find it, get in touch with us.

If it's your password you've forgotten, go to plus.net/forgotpassword/ and follow the steps.

Re: Unable to send emails

You have at least two.

Your plusnet account password which is used to login  to the member centre and is the email password for the primary mail account , and your forum password which is completely different. In addition if you have created secondary mailboxes ,neach of those has their own password.

Re: Unable to send emails

OK... so the one I changed was

, and your forum password which is completely different.

( Your plusnet account password which is used to login  to the member centre and is the email password for the primary mail account )

as far as I know, I have not changed any other password

plusnet login failure.png

By using my "old" password on the message panels, requsting the password..... it fails.

I have just changed my (forgotten) account login password, and tried the new password to send an email, and it still shows the above message box.

so. what do I need to do to get it working again?

Re: Unable to send emails

@shutter does that new password allow you to login to the member centre ?

Re: Unable to send emails

@MisterW   I have just changed the "member centre" login password. and it works fine for logging in to "Dashboard"

The "member centre" login password FAILS when I want to send a test email to my gmail address,... as shown on the previous message box.

My "recent change"  as first mentioned, password still works for me to log in for the forum

So now I have two passwords , as you mentioned... yet I still cannot send an email from my .plus.com email address.

Checking on the Thunderbird  ( XXXXX.plus.com) account settings, it seems the only way I can change the .plus.com email password is to set up a new email account.

Ok, @MisterW , understood, but I'm backing out of this - and any further involvement on the Help forum as from today. I only initially answered this as @shutter is a 'friend'.

@jab1  Go take a walk around the block, your help and advice is appreciated by most on this forum.

Re: Unable to send emails

@Champnet Maybe, but I have just about come to the end of my patience, both from the staff response side, and the behaviour of many posters asking questions, then ducking out as soon as I ask for information to try and help them - if they don't understand - why not say so? I (am) /was happy to make it simpler, or guide them if need be, they only had to ask.

Re: Unable to send emails

@shutter

Checking on the Thunderbird  ( XXXXX.plus.com) account settings, it seems the only way I can change the .plus.com email password is to set up a new email account.

It's not. When Thunderbird fails to send and reports the error , there is an 'Enter new password' , click that and enter the new password. That changes the password that Thunderbird has stored against the account.

@Champnet I've been in contact with John and expressed very similar sentiments

Re: Unable to send emails

@MisterW  I have done that many times... but it still fails, and shows another message

send message error.png

On going to the "Authentication method > Account Settings / Outgoing server (SMTP)

I will send you a PM, regarding the above settings

Re: Unable to send emails

@shutter as mentioned in the PM reply, its looking like you may need a staffer to check your account.

As @jab1 confirmed earlier on , there is no general problem as he can send via his account and I can confirm I can send from my account

Re: Unable to send emails

@MisterW  OK... thank you for your time and patience.

Can you point me to... a suitable "staffer" for this problem?

(Or point a staffter to this thread? )

Please.

Thanks again

Re: Unable to send emails

I'll see what I can do, but it may take a while. From what you say you haven't used it for some while so it can't be high priority.

Re: Unable to send emails

No, not high priority.... but handy for when "old contacts" who do not know my gmail address ( like Plusnet moderators etc) to contact me, and then I can use the "normal" reply to sender facility.

Thanks.

Re: Unable to send emails

This problem sounds familiar. Take a look at https://community.plus.net/t5/Email/Changed-password-now-no-SMTP-connection-with-Thunderbird/m-p/187...
See if it’s similar or not.

@shutter It should be possible to view TBird’s stored passwords for whatever account (IMAP, POP or SMTP) in the settings section.
Also maybe you could try setting up a temporary mailbox for SMTP delivery only and use those credentials for sending mail.
That's RPM to you!!
