Unable to set up freenetname email on new android mobile

Hi, I've had a freenetname email account for 25+ years and have it running on both my laptop and tablet, but having bought a new phone am unable to set up my emails using either IMAP or POP3 with no security selected. The message I keep getting is "couldn't open connection to server" I checked my password by successfully logging in to madasafish, so am at a loss as to what to do next. Can you help please?

Some idea of the error messages and the settings you have used would be helpful please.

Re: Unable to set up freenetname email on new android mobile

Hi and thanks for replying.

I've tried both IMAP & POP3 settings with freenetname.co.uk as the server. I was then told to edit the security settings by updating the port and/or security type. I changed from STARTTLS to 'None', but kept the Port at 143 (IMAP). This however just resulted in the error message "couldn't open connection to server"

There are issues with the page layout on the Plusnet guides.  The settings should be...

  • IMAP
    • With encryption: Port 993 TLS/SSL
    • Without encryption: Port 143 none
  • POP3
    • With encryption: Port 995 TLS/SSL
    • Without encryption: Port 110 none
  • SMTP
    • With encryption: Port 587 STARTTLS
    • Without Encryption: Port 587 none
