I used to be with Freenetname, then madasfish and now plusnet, so maybe 25 years worth of emails. I want to move these emails to Gmail. It looks like Gmail has an import function but needs to know my POP username and POP server as below;
Port: 110 Edit
Looking in the 'settings' in the plusnet mail doesn't show much at all.
All help very gratefully received.

I can see an old archived page on the plusnet site the below info.
- IMAP/POP3 Server: For IMAP this is imap.plus.net - for POP, this is mail.plus.net
- Port: 587
Gmail doesn't list a Port 587 ?

I've found the below that help,
https://community.plus.net/t5/Plusnet-Blogs/How-to-transfer-your-emails-into-Gmail/ba-p/1489624
i'm thinking that my domain name is the issue, any idea how I overcome the password/email not being recognised?

The username for the primary mailbox is your accountname. For a secondary mailbox it is accountname+mailboxname. It is also possible to use the 《accountname》.plus.com email address associated with the mailbox

When i sign in to my email it asked for a username and password. My username is my email address at my domain. As far as I know I haven't had an email that ends in '.plus.com'.
So you said;
"The username for the primary mailbox is your account name." so if my username is my email address are you saying that this is also my account name?

Just reread yourv1st post , if this an original freenetname account , then ignore me. I wascassuming you had changed to a plusnetvaccount but that's probably not the case. You need someone who knows about the legacy accounts I'm afraid.

That is a question you should be asking of Google Support - see Check emails from other accounts - Computer - Gmail Help (google.com)
AIUI Gmail import (unhelpfully) only supports POP3 (so you do not have a choice) which ONLY looks at the INBOX folder. In other words any folder structure you might have created for tidily organising your email AND the content of the SENT folder WILL NOT BE TRANSFERRED to Gmail.
If you have Outlook365 installed on your PC, you could use its import / export tools to move EVERYTHING by (correctly) treating the Plusnet mailbox as an IMAP mailstore. See Set up Office 365 email in Outlook and Import Gmail - Microsoft Support
This is one space Microsoft seem to have implemented well - importing from somewhere else into Outlook.com using IMAP - see Migrate other types of IMAP mailboxes to Microsoft 365 or Office 365 | Microsoft Learn for the nuts and bolts.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links

Hi,
thanks for the advice. This morning I have configured gmail as per the instruction in the link. The gmail inbox went from zero emails to 950 in short order, about 900 of these were spam...
If Gmail only looks at my inbox do I have to move a folders contents to the inbox to have it imported by Gmail?
I've spoken to Plusnet, they said that my legacy email is due to close in September and once closedI will no longer have access. My emails go back about 20 years and I really need to keep them.Once my account closes will I still be able to see the emails on Gmail, ie have I actually moved them to a different server or am I just 'viewing' them via Gmail?
I don't have 365 on my iMac.
I'm really out of my depth with this.
Thanks.

Anything "imported" via POP3 will be in Gmail.
Your best alternative would be to configure BOTH email accounts in the iMAC's mail application. Then MOVE (drag n drop) the content of the other folders to your Gmail account.
This approach is not always ideal as it can mess up email sort sequences: some email clients do not use the true RECEIVED date for sorting - instead the use the file store file date - which in the original system will be the same as the received date. When the files are COPIED across, their file dates will be TODAY.
I have seen issues in this arena with mailbox content restores (done wrong) giving rise to out of sequence mail item listing. Sometimes one has just got to live with this.
