Re: Can Plusnet be connected to existing Talk Talk fibre installation?

@Mr_Paul Unfortunately, CF aren't here - yet, although they have said they are planning our area for sometime this year - when they do become available, I'll be asking Zen to move me from their BT connection to CF - apparently it is £3/£4 cheaper.

@jab1

If you take BT/EE mid contract price rises into consideration, then the last time I checked the price was comparable over the contract term. There are cheaper options.

It's a toss up. If the infrastructure is properly installed and the ISP billing system works, then there's never the need to contact customer services, so there's no reason not to use the cheapest. But if there are problems.........

You pay your money and make your choice.

Edit

If I recall correctly, Zen charge less when using CF compared with Openreach.

"I'll be asking Zen to move me from their BT connection to CF - apparently it is £3/£4 cheaper."

In my area, Zen offer a 100meg synchronous down/up service for the same £28/month that you are already paying.

From my understanding, CityFibre only offer ISPs two upload speed options: 100meg and 900. So, if you opt for a 100meg download product, you will get a maximum of 100 upload, but if you order any download speed above that, (eg my 300), you automatically get 900meg upload - which the ISP may, or may not, cap.

Is there a charge for being moved from Openreach to CityFibre, whilst staying with the same ISP?

@Baldrick1 Fair enough, although my experience of BT is one reason I left PN - who I was satisfied with, as an ISP. The total integration of the PN brand into that monolithic monster worried me, and from what I have seen since moving, I'm glad I did.

The 100 down/up would suit me perfectly - I don't do gaming/massive uploads, so don't need the upload.

I don't know if there is any cost involved in moving BT>CF - I'm not going to bother about that until I have the option.

Interesting question.

My assumption would be that when you take say an 18 month contract using the Openreach network, this triggers Zen to back this with a similar contractual obligation to Openreach.

So, presumably this is effectively a new contract and would attract ETC's unless arranged at the end of a contract.

@Baldrick1 Good point, although IF I wanted to increase my speed, I can do it within the current contract. What a carrier switch would involve I don't know, and as said above, don't care until the option actually presents itself.

While all the Zen experts are here, I have a related question ...

If I put my address in to the various checkers, I can get FTTP from Openreach, CityFibre, Virgin, County Broadband, Lit Fibre, OFNL, nexfibre, and a few other Altnets.

If I go to the Zen address checker, the results ONLY show asymmetric data-rates consistent with Openreach offerings.

Is there some trick to get the Zen checker to display the CityFibre options for me ?

.

I don''t know about any tricks, but if CF are available in your area, then Zen should be. My advice would be to call them, my experience of their sales team is very positive.

As I understand things, when CF install a network in a given area Zen then have to do some work behind the scenes to connect their network to CF in that area.

Once available then I believe Zen displays the CF connection by default as it's (usually) cheaper. If CF isn't showing on Zen for you property then, as stated, you need to give them a phone.
