Re: No broadband

It works because you're bypassing the PN DNS servers when using a VPN and that seems to be where an issue lies.

Would this affect my Plusnet Mobile connection too? It seems to have gone down now 🙄

Not if using data, but if you're using your phone on the wifi it will.

Re: No broadband

it's plusnets dns server as discussed above, other dns server are still ok eg 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8

using a VPN will have changed the dns server for you

Re: DNS servers down (previous topic deleted)

It makes no sense to bury the help thread in Everything Else titled DNS which won't mean much to many of the huge number of people affected

Although it's possible to change PC settings, these days we have multiple devices so it's better to be able to change the Hub DNS and also explain why having two DNS IP addresses didn't help.

Re: No broadband

From here, I'm able to query these Plusnet DNS servers: -

212.159.13.49
212.159.13.50

But not these: -

212.159.6.9
212.159.6.10

I can see the point they died on some local monitoring I have: -

dns.png

I'm not here in a working capacity at the moment, however I've poked some ribs to make sure the relevant teams are aware of the issue and working on it. Whatever the cause, it seems pretty widespread from a quick glance at Down Detector/social media etc. Sad

Re: No broadband

@gavcradd You should be able to change DNS settings ... though I now have a business hub, but this might work ... under Advanced Settings, IPv4 configuration, if you can see DNS Servers Auto is set to yes, change it to no and then add in primary and secondary servers to Google's. Save and reboot. Fingers crossed.

Re: DNS servers offline?

Hi,

I have also experienced DNS issues with the two servers 212.159.6.9 and 212.159.6.10.

It seems OK since a few minutes: I can now resolve host addresses.

Anything that Plusnet Support can explain, maybe they are listening in the forum ?

Thanks,

marina

Re: DNS servers down (previous topic deleted)

I struggled to find the DNS setting on my router, it was under advanced/internet. (TP-Link router, not PN or BT)  Obviously I found it on my laptop easily enough but if I couldn't have found it on my router then I would have change my phone, alexa, tv etc.  Can't believe it's not changeable on plusnet routers though.

Noticed @Gandalf was online before the outage.  I'm sure they are working hard to sort it.

but note for those like me using a bt "smart" hub it won't allow you to, but seems to be fixed now anyway
