Re: Dissappearing topics?

I would image for a GDPR prospective they would use 'X' formally know as Twitter as it's a one to one conversation.

Personally I wouldn't raise a fault on this forum I'd phone in or use  'X' formally know as Twitter as I want my business kept private.

But, for technical help this is the correct place to go.

Re: Dissappearing topics?

For account related (financial) issues, I would agree X/FB is valid, but I can't believe the70,000 odd old posts which have been deleted are all account related, or even of interest any more.

Re: Dissappearing topics?

As of a few seconds ago, the thread https://community.plus.net/t5/Broadband/What-are-faulty-tie-pairs-at-the-exchange/td-p/537378 was being deleted from the start of the thread. It is (was?) on the last page of the forum list.

Edit: Hmm, that seems to have stopped now. Strange.

Re: Dissappearing topics?

Interesting, @corringham . I can understand, upp to a point, deleting old topics, but why not deal with boads which are no longer relevant like 'News & Announcement' or 'Trials', neither of which have been used to any extent for at least a couple of years?

Re: Dissappearing topics?

There are now about 70,000 fewer messages than there were when you first reported this. At this rate the entire Broadband forum will be empty in less than 20 hours.

Re: Dissappearing topics?

My thoughts exactly, @corringham , or, just possibly are they deleting topics over certain age, which in a way I can understand as it reduces thhe load on storage?

Still, it would have been nice to issue a warning/someone in authority to have responded by now.

Re: Dissappearing topics?

It isn't purely age, as there is one 2007 and seven 2008 threads left at the end of the list. There is undoubtedly a lot of threads that are no longer relevant or useful, but at 4 or 5 a second there can't be any in depth analysis being performed.

Thanks  - I hadn't looked into it that deeply, so the mystery deepens.

By the time anyone logs back in, there will be nothing left - the total post count continues to plummet as I  type.

If this is a tidy up of stuff having no current value, then may be the right place to start would have been the chat board.

I have asked if there is house keeping activity in progress.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Dissappearing topics?

So far well over a quarter of a million posts have been deleted from Broadband, and over 150,000 from "Other forums" (I assume General Chat).

It still isn't obvious what the criteria for deletion is, as some older posts are being left (at least for now). I'll be interested to see where it stops, and whether boards that are no longer relevant such as Business (or all of the News and Announcements boards!) go away altogether.

Re: Dissappearing topics?

I reckon the most helpful boards will be gone by the end of the day, followed very shortly after by the forum itself.

Re: Dissappearing topics?

Surely if they wanted to get rid of the forum itself it would just go away. Similarly, if they wanted to close a specific forum it could just go away. Culling posts in the way they are doing it seems the least efficient way possible.
