Domain Transfer help

Hi; I have been trying to transfer my personal domain away from Plus Net since November.  I have called several times and have been told a task has been raised but the IPS tag does not change and nothing has been transferred.  Whois reports the tag as FORCE9 still.

I rang again to complain again today and was told there was no escalation process and "they" would request again.

Can anyone help chance the IPS tag.  I have the new one from Hostinger ready to go...

Re: Domain Transfer help

Fix

Hey @mikebaul,

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been having trouble transferring your domain since November. It shouldn’t take this long if the initial task was raised back then. It’s likely that the task has been closed by now. I’d like to resolve this for you by raising a new task and taking ownership of the request. However, I need some information before I can proceed. I’ve opened a ticket on your account with the details I require before raising the request.

Here is the direct link to the ticket.

Re: Domain Transfer help

@Marsh Thanks for your help; as soon as you sent the task the Domain transferred and completed at Hostinger. I have since managed to download all the emails and remove them from Plus Net.  Super well done.

If you have access to Staff or my records; please may you let IAN know. He had planned to call me on Sunday to follow up but if you can let him know this is now all complete.

In some ways I am quite sad that Plus net have let this email service be so poorly maintained and having now gone through the pain to host and run my email separately there is much less loyalty stiction for future broadband service. I think the new management team has missed a trick here; now after more than 20 years as a customer where I was happy to keep my domain, email and broad service together I am now just a "broadband" user with Plus Net and free to roam easily.... lets see how this goes... cheers and thanks for your help

Re: Domain Transfer help

I think you are spot on, I have been a PlusNet customer for 20+ years, now looking to move away as Virgin Media has just installed fibre in our street. I have a domain and all my email with PlusNet and haven't really considered moving before because I couldn't face moving the domain and all my email. But alas I think the lack of full-fibre from PlusNet in my area is forcing my hand. Maybe I'll come back if BT/Openreach ever lay fibre in my street. Which email provider did you decide to migrate to?

I have read that VM is not very reliable, so it's possible I might keep PlusNet as a backup, but need to see if they will do some kind of cheap low-usage tariff, it doesn't make sense to pay £30/month if I'm only using it as a backup line. If I do keep it, at least then I won't need to migrate my email but no idea if there's a deal to be done.

Re: Domain Transfer help

Ok I just re-read your post, I guess you are using Hostinger, they do seem quite competitive, I've got 4 mailboxes though so costs soon start to rack up. Just shows how good value the PlusNet service has been all these years.

Re: Domain Transfer help

@fronty if you need multiple mailboxes (similar to the PN mail) then have a look at Mythic Beasts https://www.mythic-beasts.com/hosting . All packages allow unlimited mailboxes and forwarders(aliases) and even multiple domains, subject only to the space quota of the product. The Email only gives 2Gb space and is £2/month or £20/yr if paid annually.

I currently have 4 domains, around 12 mailboxes and some 50 or so aliases hosted on the email only package.

Re: Domain Transfer help

@MisterW That's great thanks, 2GB should be enough for now, considering I only get 1GB with PlusNet.

Re: Domain Transfer help

@fronty that was my reasoning when I moved!.

If you use IMAP to access your mailboxes, then its worth a look here https://imapsync.lamiral.info/ for info on transferring mailboxes. There's an online tool you can use or (if you're a bit wary of entering mailbox login details online) then you can install it quite easily on a linux system or VM .

Re: Domain Transfer help

@fronty

Web Hosting UK | Fast & Secure Platform for Your Website  I used their Premium webhost deal over 4 years; comes to £23 per year and i get up to 100 x 1GB emails and website hosting/tools etc. I have used 6 emails so far for my family; 94 to go!  I transferred my personal domain yesterday and uploaded old emails in MBOX format and i was up and running in a couple of hours.  In fact i have another domain that I use and they host website without transferring within the same plan (that also has 2 email accounts from it).  I am sure their will be a catch at renewal but that's 4 years away!  More to the point; getting IMAP connections from PC;s Android and iphones was so easy; outlook picked up the domain straight away and just asked for a password.  I have found the Plus net webmail of late difficult to connect to when using a personal domain .   Good luck with your transition..

Re: Domain Transfer help

hi @fronty ; I purchased Hostinger premium web service over 4 years.  Came to about £23 per year but that includes 100Gb of space for Webhosting/tools and 100 email accounts.  I get up 100 email accounts EACH with 1Gb.  I was sharing 6 emails on plus net but total 1Gb.  Now my personal domain has switched across it was easy to setup the 6 emails and they each have 1Gb.  I also have website and that has 2 more emails on it all included. I am sure their might be a catch at the end of term but that is four years away.

Another thing i have noticed is that the IMAP connection to PC; iphone and Adroid was super easy.  I have latterly found Plus net difficult to connect secondary mail accounts but Outlook picked up the domain and had all the correct settings i just entered the password and it worked.     Syncronising across platforms is working well; so deleting on iphone means it is gone from PC etc; something which was a bit hit and miss before.

All in all I am very happy to switch and return to a reliable email service; however I am very sad that after 20 years Plus net are missing out on providing a powerful email service and keeping clients happy.
