Good Morning all, what is the rationale for plusnet customers for upgrading to a FTTP connection? I am serious into selfhosting and 'owning my own data'.

@b1ink3r3d I have zero idea what you mean here - changing to FTTP merely means your connection is completely over a fibre, rather than fibre/copper connection - nothing else changes.

I mean with my FTTC connection because it's copper to my property, it is limited to at least 50Mbps download/10 Mbps upload. My new connection order is 500Mbps download and 70Mbps upload.

And your 'new' connection is fibre to your property - the only thing that has changed is the technology to provide the connection - nothing else, so I still don't understand your question.

It's the future, should be more reliable and, dependant on your budget, is much faster.

My interpretation of @b1ink3r3d's question is "why did people who have upgraded to FTTP felt the need for the extra speed available"?
If I have got that right, then my answer is "I don't need it". My FTTC connection admittedly syncs at the full 80/20 of my contract, due to now being only 50 metres from the cab, and is now very reliable. If we were still on the old cabinet, with the regular faults we were experiencing back then, and I hadn't been able to convince Openreach to do a "lift and shift" to the closer cab, then we would now be on FTTP - albeit via CityFibre around here. We would probably have only taken the 100Mbps service though.
I have asked a similar question on other forums. Some people were very defensive of their decision to go for a full Gigabit service, citing such things as online gaming requiring very regular updates with file sizes in the Gigabits.
I have no plans for anything much faster for the forseeable future - maybe when what is currently broadcast via Freeview or satellite is all online only.

@Mr_Paul The bit I don't get in the OP, and my reason for asking for clarification was this ' I am serious into selfhosting and 'owning my own data'.

I think that the implication is that either the OP hosts a website(s) that requires the increased bandwidth to reliably service their users, and/or they store all their data on a home server, (as opposed to a commercial cloud service), and requires the higher upload speeds available on FTTP, to access that data remotely, from outside their home network?
Of course, I could be completely wrong 🤔

I just added that statement at the end as some context on what I use my FTTC connection for now. I host my own storage (NAS) and websites (services)

JOOI, what upload and download speeds does your existing FTTC connection sync at, and do you find them OK for your current requirements?

@b1ink3r3d @Mr_Paul - OK, I think I understand, but I'm still confused.

If you can say why you are confused, I might be able to rephrase the question. I seem to have interpreted @b1ink3r3d's setup and requirements correctly?
