Fibre + landline

I currently have broadband from Plusnet (copper line) and my landline subscription and calls through a separate company.

Can I upgrade to fibre only with Plusnet even if I just have a copper line?

If I do upgrade to fibre only will this disconnect my landline with the other company or will I still have that available?  I plan to eventually swap to a virtual landline but need to get the sequence of events correct.

Thanks for any advice.

@dee-gee

What are you currently on and what are you looking to upgrade to?

Re: Fibre + landline

I'm currently on "Unlimited Fibre" (that uses a landline) and am thinking about changing to "Fibre" (that doesn't need a landline).

@dee-gee

Sorry, that raises another question. Are you talking about FTTP (Full Fibre) or upgrading to remove the landline (on an OR product called SOGEA)?

If the former it might also depend on whether or not you're current feed is overhead or underground.

Re: Fibre + landline

Not it's not FTTP so it would be using SOGEA with an overhead feed.

Thanks,

David

Re: Fibre + landline

Hope this helps...

If a customer has ADSL/FTTC with us but their associated PSTN service is with another provider, the upgrade to SoGEA (or FTTP) will indeed trigger a cease of the other provider’s voice service. We do flag in the account change journey that the associated voice service will cease and the customer has to provide consent to this before they can complete the account change request.

@NickBS

@NickBS has given the definitive answer as to your landline.

Due to the way PN works you need to transfer to SOGEA first before porting your number to a VOIP provider. Your number is quarentineed for 30 days but the line is considered "ceased". This matters as some VOIP providers apparently can't / don't port ceased numbers (eg Sipgate).

You need to consider who you want to transfer to and set an account up in advance of the SOGEA transfer. Then port ASAP afterwards. Note that some highly automated systems will fail to port due to the line being ceased so the VOIP provider has to talk to BT Support (who handle PN numbers) to get the port done manually.

A&A seem to offer good deals and can handle ceased numbers. Note there will probably be some down time on your phone and consider any early termination charges from your current phone service provider.
