How to setup static ip web server

I seem to have a problem with accessing domains hosted on my home web server.  If I use my static ip address I can access the server with no problem but if I set plusnetid.plus.com as the dns server for a domain name with my domain registrar there seem to be no dns records and of course I am therefore unable to access the domains on my server.

Have I misunderstood something about how this is supposed to work?

You need to have a DNS server which has a record with your domain name associated with your static IP address - does your domain registrar offer a DNS service?

@thelookoutiow that's not what you need to do. Leave the DNS (nameservers) as they were. You need to create A records, using your DNS control panel provided by your registrar) to point to your static IP. As a minimum you will need a 'www' A record to access your web server

Re: How to setup static ip web server

That's great - many thanks.  I now have an A record for the domain that apparently points to  EE Limited (using dnschhecker.org) but I can't ping the domain name successfully or access the domain using its URL.  It's odd as just pinging or using the IP address in the browser works fine.

Are you trying to access your home web server from inside or outside of your home ?

If from outside the home, then follow the advise given in previous replies.

If from inside your home, from a device on your LAN, then your firewall might be preventing access due to "NAT reflection" protection.  The firewall ideally should prevent the devices on your LAN accessing a local device/server using an external IP address or URL, because that is a common hacking method enabling DNS poisoning and other unwanted nasties, so is usually blocked.  There are ways of circumventing this !
