Re: Location of ONT and router

@jgb

Thanks for the explanation.

This is the CF fibre in the OR duct serving my house. They would have 5 or 6 mtr to run to install at my property.

Re: Location of ONT and router

Thank you for all the replies.

I have a boarded loft with power point for the ONT.  Ideally I would like the CSP installed next to the ONT, to do this I assume that one continuous piece of ducting needs to run from the telegraph pole and into the house where the CSP can be located.  So what diameter is the ducting ?  (there is a small gap under the eaves that hopefully will be large enough)

Thanks

Re: Location of ONT and router

@PhilH9

As ever, you'll not know what is possible until the day of install.

The fibre cable will be run from the pole and attached to your house - exactly the same as the copper cable currently is. In fact, if you ask they may remove the copper cable entirely.

Note that to work at hight installers need to drill two small holes in your wall to secure their ladder. Is the "hole" in your eves at the same general location as the current attachment point. If so, they could use the same holes. If not they may need to drill more if they go down that route.

If it's a straight pass though the hole for the cable then I would suggest no ducting is required but what you might do is put a draw string in place to assist in bringing in the cable. That is if it's any distance. If it's few inches then you probably wouldn't need to. If the ONT isn't on the same wall as the entry point you might want to consider a bit of duct from the entry point to the desired location. No need to actually install it until the day - I suspect you'd have time to quickly put it in place if the installer agees while they string the fibre cable.

They might go down to ground level for the CSP and then back up to your desired entry point for the ONT location.

Re: Location of ONT and router

Thanks Brian

The object of having the CSP and ONT in the loft is to avoid having cables running up and down the outside of the house.  If the installer insists on having the CSP at ground level then so be it and a hole through the wall at ground level will be a suitable location for the ONT and router.  The house is built of solid engineering bricks which are really difficult to drill a neat hole through without hammering them to bits.

I'll take your advice and put a draw string through the gap under the eaves and have some ducting ready for a path through the loft and try and persuade the installer on the day.

Thanks

Philip
