My address and phone line don't match up on the openreach database.

I'm investigating other providers and I'm getting the error "The landline telephone number you have provided doesn't match the address".

Apparently from looking at other forums this is caused by a failure to update a database maintained by Openreach. Providers such as Plusnet have to put in a request to Openreach.

My address is on the Post Office database and the landline works fine. I never had a problem before Plusnet gave me a new number when I engaged their services.

From research it appears thet Plusnet need to raise an ORDI request with Openreach as soon as possible to have this corrected.

Can someone at Plusnet fix this for me?

This is a common problem. Does anyone from Plusnet monitor these forums?

Apologies for the delayed staff response.

From what I can see your landline number is registered at your address in Openreach's systems which matches Royal Mail's database perfectly. Can you private message me the number you're checking with another provider?

For anybody else with this problem, it turns out I live in a "fibre  priority exchange area" and I can only order Full Fibre (also known as FTTP, Fibre To The Premises) from now on. The days of ordering a cheap broadband deal are over, at least until the full roll out of FTTP is completed so I'll probably stay with Plusnet.

Many thanks to Gandalf for explaining this, I had no idea such dark forces were at work!

@SteveD2 Just beware if you do go with Plusnet for FTTP you will lose your Plusnet supplied phone number as FTTP is data only.

Ex - Plusnet Customer (2009 - 2023) now with BT

It's a system thing on OpenReach. Their database has been programmed not to accept new DSL orders if FTTP is available. When you do an omline check ISP systems will say no.

 

However, from previous posts. It may be possible to transfer a DSL account from one ISP to another. You need to speak to the new ISP, get them to place a manual order and then hope OR validate it.
