Poles with electricity lines

Virgin have declined to install full fibre to my property because the only rout is overhead via a pole that has electricity and phone lines. Do Plusnet have a policy on this, no point in me placing an order if they will decline too. My partner had full fibre run from a similar dial-use pole so I’m hoping because Openreach do the install it will be ok ?

Re: Poles with electricity lines

If OR already have facilities on the pole, then I see no reason why they wouldn't install Full Fibre apparatus - providing (a) they provide Full Fibre in the area, and (b) it is safe/possible to add more.

Re: Poles with electricity lines

One copper line on the pole, which is midway between my house and a fibre-equipped pole in the street. The Virgin surveyor said they didn’t have wayleave to go to a dual pole. My thoughts are like yours, if there’s a copper line on it already, then Openreach must already have wayleave. And if Plusnet use Openreach for install why would there be a problem. However, all search tools for fibre say my house can’t get it, despite it being in the road 25 metres away, but the only cable route is overhead via the dual-use pole, hence my query

Re: Poles with electricity lines

A good way, and probably the best, to determine whether or not Full Fibre is available to you, is to post the full result from either: https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL , or https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome , if you don't have a phone service associated with your current connection. Obscure your phone number/address before posting the result, though.

Re: Poles with electricity lines

Quite often OR are reluctant to use dual service poles, as they need specialist teams for the installation (due to the electricity cables) and such teams are in short supply. They may do it if they are actively building an area, but not so likely to do infills.

Re: Poles with electricity lines

Good point, @corringham . Until we know more from the OP, we won't really know what is happening. Is the 'pole with fibre' an OR one, or an altnet, for instance?

Re: Poles with electricity lines

Dual service pole require the use of blue ladders which are not carried on all vehicles.

If neighbours in the same post code have fibre but your property does not, there is a possibility that BTOR’s databases are flawed thus a call to Plusnet to explain the circumstances requesting a database integrity check is the way to go.

Hey @Mister_Roy,

As @Townman as correctly informed, it could be an issue with the BTOR database. I can raise a request for your address. Please send me a direct message with your address so we can proceed.

Or more precisely click on @Marsh 's name link (like the one here) or next to their avatar and click the "Send Private Message" link which could be a button or just text.

Re: Poles with electricity lines

Hi @Mister_Roy I hope you are well. I have raised this matter with Openreach regarding checking the database for your address, the reference is QIS***** (for security purpose this has been hidden) and we should be getting some form of response within 5 working days. However, if I receive a response sooner, I will be updating you then.
