Currently I have a static IP address. I would like to register a servers into that IP's reverse DNS.
How can I do this?
I am in the process of setting up an iRedMail email server. The address below is a temperary domain which I am using for test purposes. Once this is working, I will transfer an active business's domain which is currently pointed to gmail.
I would like to register: mail-01.test6789.co.uk to 212.159.73.242
Thanks.
Fixed! Go to the fix.

The forward DNS record for mail-01.test6789.co.uk will need to point to your IP address before this can be done.

Thank you. I have maintained the DNS records. Yes, I should have done this before asking the question!
See below.

Thank you. Our tests are all complete! We are ablew to setup an email server, and it seems to be nice and straight forward.
Please can this DNS entry be edited for our propery email server:
mail-01.camleyphotographic.com
The test6789 entry can now be removed.

Hiya,
Can you create the A record for your domain to point it to your static IP? NetOps have come back to me now advising they're not able to do the rDNS until the A record's created.
Let me know once you've done that

Strange, I though this was already there.
The A DNS entry for mail-01 already points to our static IP. (212.159.73.242)

It's not pointing though to mail-01.camleyphotographic.com, which I believe is what you're wanting the rDNS set to.
U:\>nslookup 212.159.73.242
Name: mail-01.test6789.co.uk
Address: 212.159.73.242

@Gandalf - you have things the wrong way round. Pointing the IP to a domain is exactly what @gck303 is asking to be done.
We now need to change the rDNS entry to point the IP to mail-01.camleyphotographic.com.
The forward record already exists: -
$ host mail-01.camleyphotographic.com
mail-01.camleyphotographic.com has address 212.159.73.242

Hi George,
After some back and forth with a colleague in the NetOps team, they suspect the reason they're unable to set the rDNS is because the MX records for your domain aren't created. Is this something you can do? Let me know if not though.
Cheers

Honestly shouldn't be required @Gandalf
Besides, the MX records already exist. Let me poke somebody
