Transfer domain away from PlusNet

I have just called PlusNet to cancel my broadband from the renewal date in May. I asked if I could transfer my domain name to another registrar. I was told that I could not do it.

However on the website it says

If you wish to cancel any domain service you should provide instructions about what they would like to happen to any domain names on their account.

If requested, we can continue to renew and host a domain name on a subscription Mail Only account. Please make this clear when requesting account cancellation.

If no instructions are received, the domain name will cease to function. It will not be renewed by us when the renewal is due.

If you wish to transfer your domain to another registrar this should be done before account cancellation or there is a risk the domain will cease to function.

So am I able to move it or not?

If not, can I just pay to keep the domain name with PlusNet?

Thanks

If it is your own domain e.g a .uk or .com and NOT your <account>.plus.com , then YES you can transfer it out, but you MUST do it before the account is cancelled.

If not, can I just pay to keep the domain name with PlusNet?

There is no option to keep the domain with Plusnet once the account is cancelled

I have just called PlusNet to cancel my broadband from the renewal date in May.

Did you really want to cancel i.e no longer have broadband ? or are you moving to another supplier ?

If the latter, then you shouldnt cancel with PN, just contact the new supplier and they will arrange the transfer and cancellation.

Re: Transfer domain away from PlusNet

@dcolpus If you want to keep the domain you have to transfer it away from Plusnet, it is certainly possible but phone support staff haven't got much knowledge of these legacy features so can't help you. You will have to wait for one of the forum staff to see this thread.

You can't pay Plusnet to keep it, the paid mail only accounts have been discontinued.

edit .... should have mentioned that as @MisterW says an <account>.plus.com cannot be transferred.

Re: Transfer domain away from PlusNet

I am moving to Community Fibre which is full fibre rather than using broadband.

I have colpus.me.uk as the domain name I have registered with PlusNet

Ah! ok , then as @RealAleMadrid  says , you need to wait for a Help team member to pick this up and raise a 'ticket' to transfer the domain. They will need the IPSTAG for the new registrar.

If it hasnt been picked up in a couple of days, post back and I'll escalate it

You can also do it yourself directly with nominet https://www.nominet.uk/domain-support/
