Usenet asking for password

usenet.plus.net has Just started asking for user name and password; it was OK earlier today..

As I recall this is run by Giganews on behalf of Plusnet. If Giganews is US based perhaps someone just came in to work there and made some changes.

Hopefully the problem will clear itself. But then again.....

Re: Usenet asking for password

Yep, same problem as before.

Seems to be occurring every few months now. It happened in January and again in July. Probably other times I can't remember as well.

Hopefully Bob Pullen will be on the case soon.

Re: Usenet asking for password

I've a feeling I know why this might be. Will nudge some folk but I may not be able to give it my full attention until next week.

Re: Usenet asking for password

Took me so long to find the thread about it back in July, it had been fixed by the time I did.

Hope it gets fixed soon.

Re: Usenet asking for password

I first noticed this morning (12 November) that Thunderbird was prompting for a username and password, and that the email and/or portal username and password did not work.

My settings are:

server=news.plus.net

port=119

connection security=none (as opposed to SSL/TLS)

Shame that Plusnet's "Service Status" page doesn't mention Usenet and describe that there is a problem.

I remember opening a similar ticket a while ago.

Re: Usenet asking for password

Why doesn't the PN status page include Usenet? We pay for it in the same way as other PN services.

Thanks Bob.

I signed up and it seems OK, at least it bridged the gap for me for a few days.
