@LexLex2020

The broadband account firewall was turned off some time ago

Re: VPN problem

Again many thanks.

I have tried to get access to my connection settings but I can't find how to access them, I have just spent 20 minutes talking  to one of the Plusnet customer service ladies whom I will politely label as  useles. My only question was could she please show me how too access these settings, put on hold several times constant tapping about on a keyboard could be heard. To me it was obvious she didn't know what to do,.I politely asked if I could speak to a supervisor with some tech knowledge and surprise surprise he was unavailable. Plusnet in this case you were useless.

Re: VPN problem

@Dan_the_Van,

Cheers,

You know after taking a look actually do remember from my early days here.

@longshanks67,

Looks like I can change the settings from my end, want me to try and change the settings to low?

See if that works for you?

You should also be able to play with the settings through the member centre on plus.net after logging in.

Kind regards,

Lex

@longshanks67 if you're referring to the Firewall settings, then login to your PLusnet account at plus.net, go to the 'Broadband' tab and if the firewall is available on your account (it may not be as I advised above!) then there will be a 'Broadband firewall' link towards rthe bottom right of the page

That topic doesn't say that the firewall has been removed from all legacy accounts on Plusnet's "high touch" network

Re: VPN problem

@MisterW  do you see the "Broadband Firewall" in your "Member Centre" ? (confirming whether or not the thing still exists)

Re: VPN problem

@outcast

I just posted something that I thought was useful.

If you enabled the Broadband Firewall then you would be on plusnet 'High touch' network

I still see the option looking under broadband

Re: VPN problem

@outcast Yes I do!. For information I have a static IP so on the 'high touch network. My firewall is currently set to OFF but has  been set to LOW in the past which is why I still have the option.

TBH there's really not much benefit in the firewall these days. It was originally introduced when modems with no internal firewall were prevalent. Now everyone has a router with a NAT firewall there's really no point in the broadband one.

Re: VPN problem

@longshanks67

Have you checked the Plusnet firewall settings in the member centre?

https://www.plus.net/member-centre/broadband/firewall

These need to be set to Low for VPNs to work

Screenshot 2023-09-15 at 18-24-29 Broadband Firewall Member Centre Plusnet.png

Once  set the router needs to be rebooted  for the settings to take effect

HTH

You can check out but you can never leave ( easily)

Re: VPN problem

It does keep a spectrum of traffic well away from the router, avoiding bandwidth utilisation. Personally I run it at high.

Re: VPN problem

I agree, I would choose to enable as many firewall layers as were available to me, for those reasons,

although if I was still on a Plusnet connection, the "High" setting (for me) is too high for the router ports I have open.
