@keeka

If you can transfer your account onto a SOGEA connection then you have PN internet with any VOIP provider.

Re: fibre only and existing landline

So, if I understand correctly, SOGEA might be the product existing FTTC customers will be (automatically?) switched to when analogue phone lines cease. Staying on the existing copper line to the premises, no new installation, but less the landline.

@keeka

That's correct.

FTTC connections will be moved onto SOGEA lines and ADSL connections onto SOTAP / SOADSL lines.

Re: fibre only and existing landline

So I am now planning what to do...

My PN contract is due for renewal in a few months. I am on Unlimted Fibre 40/10 with free evening and weekend calls to UK landline numbers.

If, in a few months time, I renew my contract for another 18/24 months, that will take me beyond the POTS switchoff and I will be (auto?) migrated to SOGEA. This AIUI will, again automatically, free up my current landline number. I am then free to port it to a 3rd party VOIP provider.

I'm thinking this is the option that results in the least downtime. I will prepare for VoIP by getting a Gigaset N300, run my landline and SIP in in tandem via same handsets. Then, when POTS goes, port my number and remove the POTS config from the gigset box.

Do you think that is the safest approach, with least downtime?

Once the landline's gone, I may also just point the N300 at my own asterisk PBX (doesn't exist yet!). AIUI you cannot route calls via self hosted Asterisk, and then out the landline connected to N300 since the N300 is DECT->POTS or DECT->VoIP only.

Thanks all for your help on this.
