Continual WiFi drops outs, slow speeds, constant buffering, password not recognised...

My WiFi situation has never been great (for 3 years) but for the last month it has been impossible!

Have had a new master socket put in, and PlusNet engineers also came out twice in the last week. One 'reset' my router and made things much worse. Im told by Plusnet that all looks fine their end and that my speeds are fine. They're not!

I'm so sick of the endless buffering and repeated complete and total drops in signal when trying to watch something. I can't do a Zoom call without losing signal repeatedly, or being asked to re-enter my password, I can't do a speed test when the signal drops out as there is NO SPEED! When I do get a signal I get speeds like the below (pls see attached screen grabs).

ping 158 / Download 0 / upload --

ping 35 / Download 2.44Mbps / Upload 5.31

ping 23 / Download 48.75 / Upload 0

ping 21 / Download 109.81(!) / Upload 18.19 (Whilst on the photo to PlusNet helpline)

Internet Speed: 220 Kbps / 8.7 Mbps / 0 / 0 / 4.3Mbps / 7.4Mbps

These are not the speeds I was guaranteed when I renewed my contract with PlusNet!!!

I hear the current PlusNet routers are not fit for purpose and a new one is coming out in November... what do I do until then pray tell??? Thanks to Covid I'm supposed to be working from home, but my hopeless wifi situation makes that impossible.

If this continues for another week I will have no choice but to break my contract with PlusNet and go with another provider instead. I am within my rights to do so because PlusNet have not kept their end of the bargain - providing me with a WiFi signal that works, with speeds around 60Mpps.

@Xtel Welcome to the forums. PN Help Team staff should be along in a short time, but if you require help from other Community members before then, it would possibly help if you posted your Help Desk page from your router - obscuring any personal details.

@Xtel - sorry to hear you're having problems Sad

PlusNet have not kept their end of the bargain - providing me with a WiFi signal that works, with speeds around 60Mpps.

We do not guarantee Wi-Fi speeds. Indeed, expecting a continuous output of ~60mbps, particularly if connected to the 2.4GHz radio, is pretty optimistic. That said, things should certainly not be as low as some of the results cited in your post - assuming you're within good range of the router.

Speaking of which, where are your devices positioned in relation to the router and is the router situated in an area of clear space, with minimal obstruction? As I type, there's an iPhone on the network that has a very poor wireless signal, even on the 2.4GHz radio. This suggests that it's some distance away, or the signal is having to carry through some fairly heavy obstructions en route.

Whilst I don't think it's related to your problems, I have just pushed a more recent software update to your router on the off-chance it helps. You'll need to switch the router off/back on again to apply it.

Also of note, is the fact that your broadband connection does seem to drop briefly every few days (unless that's you rebooting the router?)
